Apparently it was sitting in some old lady's attic in England where her husband put it like 40 years ago. He bought it from some pawn shop not too long after it was stolen and gigged with it then stuck it in the attic. I'm not sure what made the lady think it was McCartney's but it was. She got a reward of some undisclosed amount.
