Does your VHT poweramp make sounds when you shut it off and it's cooling down? I hear a few ticks or clinks for a few minutes after I turn it off.

Thanks.

Dave

Sounds like the tubes haven't been burned in yet. It's not specific to VHT.

I've never had ticks with my M4/2150 rig, but that's not to say it's a bad thing.

I'm guessing it's just the plates flexing and de-flexing with the tremendous heat ???

heard that with a few amps on powering down. Last at most 3 or 4 seconds, interment noise here or there, then it's done right? Should be nothing to worry about.

It's a tick every 10 seconds or so. Lasts a minute. I asked on the VHT amp forum and a few guys said theirs do it too so I'm not worried.

It' the power tubes making the noise. As soon as you power the amp off, no more current to the tubes, no more heat being generated in the tube and it starts to contract slightly--That is the "ticking" you hear. It's normal.

Yeah, it might last longer than what I stated, you just mainly hear it at the beginning and then they become far less frequent. Just your tubes cooling down, nothing to worry about.

I had this ticking on my 2/90/2. I called VHT, and they told me it was a grounding issue that is caused by a bit "too much paint" on the screwsholes on the top and bottom that connect with the riser board where the power tubes are. So, to fix it, take the amp out of the rack, and unscrew the top and bottom screw (in the middle of the top and bottom of the amp). Take a razorblade and remove the paint on the area where the screw will be touching. I did that on the top and bottom, and it made the ticking go away.

I'll give that a shot tomorrow. I'm working from home so the M4/VHT will be on all day. :D
