Several months ago I abandoned hauling my Marshall 1960A 4X12 lead cab around because it was a shear PITA. I bought a couple Marshall MC212 (2X12) cabs to use in running stereo for larger venues. I wound up just using one of them anyway because I found whenever we were playing a venue big enough to place both cabs on each side of the stage we had our soundman around anyway who would just mic them. So I decided here recently to just use one cab in stereo mode behind me as my monitor with an SM57 to each speaker running to house with each of the two channels panned left and right. That's been working great.

Anyway the speakers in the MC212's are proprietary to that cabinet. They are Marshall branded Celestions called a G12N-65 watt. They sounded fine to me but I wanted to upgrade to a more classic rock type speaker that could handle 50 watts per channel from my Carvin TS-100 power amp. The metal guys here will frown but I wound up getting the Celestion 65 watt V-30's. They flat out sound amazing and I can most definitely can say they provide a clarity that was never there before. The magnets on the V-30s are huge compared to the G12N's and the cones are different. I'm just amazed at how a speaker upgrade from what I thought was pretty good sounding stock went to amazing with the V-30s.

I upgraded the latest firmware over the weekend for the Ultra which is 6.0. There is a new feature in the amps advanced tab called "thump". (Sarg that's subliminal trick to get you to buy one!!) Even though I have a tube poweramp, when I dial up some thump now it really gives that "chunk" or "balls" to the sound more than ever before. And with the V-30s in the 2X12 cab it's just wicked. And having 50 watts per channel, especially with these speakers is more than enough.

Just thought I'd throw this out there in case someone was speaker shopping.

Very cool that you found what works for ya mang!

Interestingly, I just completely bailed on v30's and went to Celestian G12K-100's and love them.

Damn! Wish I'd known that. I would have taken them off your hands!

I have always loved v30's they get alot of hate on forums, but to me and my sounds they are perfect.

+1

I really would be interested in the new tube powered cab that Fractal is coming out with so I could even have more fun by using the cab sims on the Ultra as well. But for the life of me I don't understand why this new cab is going to be a 1X12 instead of a 2X12? I mean I'm really stunned. When you have some of the most lush stereo Eventide quality effects going on with the Axe and your only providing a 1X12 speaker? Makes zero sense to me. Maybe some customers won't care but they are losing a sale with me on that deal. And I'm not buying two "powered" cabs just to get stereo.

I am very interested in it too.

I also have reservations about it being 1x12, but hearing from people who have played through one, it apparently gets the job done very nicely.

Judgement will be reserved until or if I get one to play myself, but I try to keep an open mind.
