Just window shopping over here and the next guitar I plan to get (svss zircote) comes with a FR 1500, if I go the FR avenue. Just a few questions.

Is the 1500 pretty bad compared to OFR? Does it stay in tune? I dont particularly care if the tuners aren't as high quality as long as it stays in tune the same.

If it is worth replacing is the OFR a drop in replacement? Any other options?

IMO not really worth an upgrade, the 1500 is a nicer version of a 1000 with stainless steel screws. Essentially a Floyd 1000/1500 and an OFR are the same thing just ones made in Korea and the other is made in Germany.

I think you should be able to drop in a Gotoh 1996 in there and that is something I'd consider but honestly a 1500 is good enough, will stay in tune and not bad at all. Coming from a 1000, the 1500 is a nicer version of a 1000.

The gotoh looks about half the price of OFR too

Not what you wanted to hear but I’m a kahler guy…. When set up correctly they are awesome imo….

Yeah depending on where you get get them half or less than half. Made in Japan, looks like a cleaner design and should be as good or better by all means than either a Korean or German Floyd.

Yeah you may have to enlarge holes for the mounting post and stuff like that so in short it's not really worth it unless your prepared to do that or prefer the design/profile of a 1996.

The 1500 is great for what it's worth and I don't think it's really worth it to upgrade in either case. If I did do it I'd take it to a tech and it shouldn't be a problem but I wouldn't do it myself and leave it to a pro.
