Hi,
Just wondering if anyone her has personally tried this combination and could let me know how it sounds. Maybe compared to some other cabs aswell. For example how would it stack up (no pun intended) against a mills afterburner or a new diezel cab? I'm guessing it won't perform as well as either but is it close enough?
Would really appreciate some replies asap!
Thanks,
Jonny.

I can't say that I've played that specific cabinet with a Diezel, but I did own the Framus Dragon head and matching 4x12 for a while, and have played Diezel amps before.

From what I gathered, the construction was quite a bit different than a Diezel cab, in that it uses thinner materials and angled front (my model) thus sounding more vintage. It may not have the forward "push" and low-end that a Diezel cab might have, but I seriously doubt you'll find yourself disappointed with the money that's required (€600). Compared to €1000 for a Diezel cab, it's an acceptable substitute.

i played exactly that setup for some time.

especcially if you are a bit tight on budget - these go for 500,- in the stores (when they are "on sale") and can be found for 350,- used. actually, i prefered it over the Mesa OS cab i also had in the rehearsal room, was much tighter and not as boomy. its not the BEST cab out there, but it for sure gets the job done! jst be carefull with the Mid-Cut on the Herbert, i always found that this cab and/or the V30s have an extreme pronouncation of the freqs where the Mid-Cut effects, so the Mid-Cut is very sensitiv in combination with this cab. Besides that - nothing to worry, if you like V30s, this cab wont disappoint you.

and later, when you have more funds for a "better" cab - you can sell these with almost no loss.

Thanks guys,
One went on the bay for £250 yesterday, I think I should have gone for it but wanted a bit more feedback first. Ah well, next time! How would you guys compare it to mills acoustics afterburner, orange cabs and the new diezel cabs?
Thanks

I'd compare it to an Orange cab in quality. But it's a lot thicker in size and thus more bassy than the Framus.

I can't say I've tried the new Diezel cabs, or looked at them close-up, and I've only seen one Mills cabinet before at a friends gig. He had one he imported from America and loves it to bits. They're quite hard to find in the UK if I'm not mistaken - assuming that's where you are? And they are quite a bit more expensive. I wouldn't compare a Framus Dragon cab and Mills cab. :)

the Orange is much more "massive" than the Framus, i've only played an Orange Cab once with the Herbert, and while the Sound itself was really cool - hm, the Herbert is already pretty "dark" sounding and the Orange is too - so together it was way too much imho. For an Amp with less Bass and Low-End than the Herbert, the Orange for sure kills. Also imho in quality they are a bit over the Framus.

I have never played a Mills Cab (are they even available in Europe?) - but have played the new Diezel Cabs, the frontloaded versions - both K100 and V30. I really dont want to sound like a fanboy, but these really ARE the perfect match for the Herbert, and i really have never played a better cab. With the FL Cab, K100 loaded, the sound was unbelievable - i immediately fell in love. Before i played them, i always thought "dude...over 1000,- just for the cab...i dont think thats worth a cab" - well, i've been proven wrong. I really have played much cabs with the Herbert (because we mostly have to use whatever-is-there-as-backline at gigs), but the new Diezel cabs are something completely different imho. unbelievable TIGHT, but with the Low-End still beeing present, a really cutting edge on the higher mids (something you will miss with some other cabs) but without beeing harsh (something you will HAVE on other cabs)...so overall-perfectly-balanced..i didnt felt like i need to turn any knob -> plugged in, turned up - perfect sound right out of the box. The FL V30 has a bit more low-end, which may sound better alone, but the K100 = 100% perfect bandmix-sound.

As you can see - you just cant compare the Diezel and the Framus (at least in my opinion) - there is a (damn good) reason for the price-difference.

And no, i unfortuneately couldnt raise the funds for a FL cab yet. :( is still play my Krank Revolution cab, which is - for my taste - the best match for this amp, right after the Diezel Cabs. Its frontloaded, but oversized, so you have a lot of OOOOOMPH if you want it, but can be tight if you need it. Its not as tight or cutting as the Diezels of course.

EDIT: damn, i really sound like a fanboy. :aww:

I concur with this statement regarding the Einstein and an Orange 2x12. Combining a dark sounding cab with a dark sounding amp is not the best solution, in my opinion. After long thought, I went the safe route and ordered a Diezel cab. Usually (but not by default!) heads and cabs of the same brand match up pretty well. Can't speak about personal experience with the Diezel line - yet. Still waiting for the cab...
