I'll try and get a decent pic of it, but my les Paul custom lite has a hairline gap in between the fret end and the binding. I was just wondering if anyone has encountered this and is there a fix? I.e. Filling in that gap with epoxie or something? I really don't want to have basically a new guitar refretted but it's a keeper and I've bonded with the damn thing. So if a refret I'll hit my local luthier and see how much for stainless. Never thought I would dig on a less than full thickness les Paul but I can't tell the difference in tone or fullness, and it handles like a shredder, but looks like a custom..

What would a fix accomplish? At least on mine, I can't fret beyond the metal anyway. So if I pull the string off the metal onto the binding or into a gap, either way I've messed up the note. Does the string get stuck in the gap?

But I'll recommend my favorite luthier and repairman: Brian Howard of Brian Howard guitars. Just give him a message and I'm sure he'll have some recommendations for you.

Sometimes I wiggle or shake it during a lead part and I feel it. It's annoying. Otherwise it's solid. I can play and not pull it, but sometimes it's part of the bend. I can play tight but I tend to play with a lot of "English" on it.

My tech is an old school guy, worked at Jackson 30 years ago. He is a ninja. Charges $300. perfect job.

Word. Thats not bad. Ill check with my local guy. He's actually a serious dude, even from south carolina.

I'd probably fill it with super glue or clear nail polish.

Im a fan of the Jescar wire for the frets. have him give you nice rounded ends too :)

So do you extend the frets over the binding? Do away with the nibs?

nibs gone forever. :) ALTHOUGH you can get the right luthier to keep nibs, but that will cost you an arm and a leg.

Meh. Don't need the nibs. Now I'm gassing over getting stainless.

+1. This might do the trick to get rid of the annoyance factor when you're doing your thing on this fret. I recommend the refret, too, for an even better option.

Will try. Gonna talk to a couple luthiers this's week and see about a complete refret. Got a show on Friday so I can deal it next week.

Wish I had done this to my Les Paul custom, including getting rid of the binding nibs. I never got along with the low frets. And being so ham fisted made reworking frets such a chore.
