Thinking about sending in my newly acquired SL2 module in to get this mod, but would like some more feedback as to the C45 side: is it classic Marshall? Does it have a pretty tight low-end? Less gain than Ch A of my SL2X?
From everything I've read, the HBE side is all Jerry Cantrell (and that's a good thing), but has anyone had a C45/BE mod instead of HBE?

Thanks,
Buck

I think jkdsteve still has the one he got from me - maybe he can shed some light on this . . . I can't remember.

I was under the impression from Dave that the C45 could not be on the same module as the HBE.

I IM'd him - he said the SL could be modded to C45/BE and the SL2 could be a high-gain C45/HBE.

The one I had (that I think jkdsteve now has, unless he sold it) was the SL2 C45/HBE. Like I said, I honestly can't remember what it sounded like exactly  , but I remember I liked it and I never posted it for sale/trade - but I ended up having to deal it away as part of the deal for my Egnater-modded RM100 , or I probably would have kept it.

I'm just wondering now if it's going to make either my SL2X or EG5 obsolete; sounds like it might be a little of both?
IMO the EG5 totally nails that 90's 'modern Marshall' sound without sounding 'nu metal'. i.e. Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, etc.

FWIW I have an SL, EG5 and Brown Eye module. There is no overlap whatsoever. I am sending my Brown Eye back to dave
for the C45 mod in the near future. Dave's BE mod on the SL yields a completely different feel and attack than the Egnaters stock, IMO.

Hi,

I am new to Rig Talk but have been a member of the grailtone MTS forum for a number of years. JKD has indeed sold the C45/HBE; I took delivery a couple of weeks ago. Since I own an RM4, I only have the C45 channel available (until I buy an M4, which is going to happen very soon).

I find the C45 to be much brighter than any other Mod, including my stock Mr Scary, (stock) Eggie dual SL, (stock) Brown, or gigmods Brown. Also, there is less "fizz", which translates into increased clarity and "definition" IMHO. I am completely re-thinking my EQ curve as a result.

I am running the C45/RM4 through the following: RM4 > output 1 > Behringer mini-mixer (for level only)> Randall RM20 loop return > Avatar Vintage 4x12; RM4 > output 2 > TC Electronic G2 > Lexicon MX200 > into loop returns of 2 Eggie Tweakers loaded w/EL34s > Avatar Traditional 4x12s

At bedroom levels the tone is very aggressive; when turned up there is tons of "bloom" and at those special moments, transcendental oneness with the guitar. I highly recommend Friedman modded Mods; there's therapy in those circuits.

Welcome Glendale! . . . Avondale here (really just a few blocks from the Cardinals Stadium - 107th Ave & Indian School). Maybe we can get together sometime and check out each other's modules . . . what other modules do you have? What's your MTS rig?

David,

I live in the Arrowhead area, so we are not too far away from each other.

My full module list is:

Mr Scary
Plexi
Brown
Eggie single channel "Hi Gain", looks like an early one to me since the faceplate is a bit different
gigmods Brown
Eggie dual SL

and the Freidman C45/HBE, of course. All modules are stock except where noted.

Matt
