Picked up a set of Friedman Humbuckers for my Les Paul to try out. If you are looking for a set of PAF style pickups with more attitude and bite, these are hard to beat. They have a very cool upper midrange snarl.

Pardon the sloppy playing...

That Splawn sounds like the most evil Marshall around....

Which pickups are in the the video the Classics or the Classic+?

I wonder who is making these for Dave? Dave Friedman has some pretty good ears.

The guitar is loaded with a Classic in the neck and the Classic+ in the bridge. On the box it says they are hand wound by Grover Jackson. Not sure how true that actually is but... I can say Dave and Grover have a great ear for tone. I would love to p ick up a Cali, but if I drop $3k plus on anything Friedman, it will be the BE Deluxe.

I’ve got both if you’re in the market

The GJ2 guitars are almost the same as a Friedman Cali as far as I know, and for sure not 3K. Look for a Glendora used. And I bet the Friedman pickups are tweaked GJ2 Habaneros.

Great tone and great playing. Great to hear a Splawn dialed in! Those pickups work really well with that LP. Funny how the better someone plays, the more self conscious they can feel about it? Even when a real solid player is ice cold and not warmed up, you can still tell that they are really good. It comes through warmed up or not!

Thanks man! I was definitely cold in that clip. That was also my first time getting to play those pickups through my Splawn. They pair well together. Although the magic set with my Splawn is a set of Aldrichs.

Nice! What year is your Splawn and were you using the Weber attenuator and/or the loop volume? What speakers, too? Great playing and tone.

My Spawn is a 2005 model. I run it in 3rd Gear- so that I can have some semblance of a clean channel. Gain is usually set between noon and 1:00. I use the Weber all the time. Without it, I have literally knocked pictures off the walls in my house. To me, the amp doesn't start to open up until the volume is at 9:00. Which is whereI run it. I use the Weber as a global master volume. I am running an EVH cab loaded with the Celestial EVH Greenback speakers. I have a Strymon Mobius and TimeLine in the loop for subtle pitch shift and the delays. I also have an ISP Decimate as the first ting in the loop chain. I use it to kill amp hiss- which I cannot stand. Below is my pedalboard.

Pedalboard by Joel Ducote, on Flickr

I run the board with a Musicom EFK MK III. I use the RJM Mini Amp Gizmo to switch channels, OD1/OD2 and to activate the boost for solos. The Archer gets turned on for solos. The Flint and Carl Martin are to provide some help with a decent clean tone.... they have to do ALOT of heavy lifting with this amp...lol! With my current band, I only use one bank. OD1. OD1 with Delay. OD2. OD2 with Delay and the global preset is my solo tone. (We don't need no stinking clean tones! lol!)

sounds straight bitchin man! you were cutting it strict in that man, well done!

Great demo!

What do you think of the neck pickup? Is it too fat or bassy? Do you know what yours measures? I love the bridge on mine but the neck can be kind of fat (measures about 8.0k which seems high).

Once again: great tone and playing. Makes me want to give Splawn another go. What speakers are in that cab? ...BTW, this is my ideal 'demo video' of an amp. I don't like hearing them as much through IR's and what not. Thanks for sharing.

Mine measures about 7.8k. It don't find it to be overly bassy at all.

The cab is an EVH 412. It has the stock Celestion EVH Greenbacks.
