Friedman pedals and hiss.

So I got ahold of a Friedman BE-OD and SIR Compre. They are both actually cool, but I find that they are both extremely noisy...especially if you are playing with the slightest amp side gain. Anyone else notice this?

Well if you are using it into a dirty amp then on the BE od turn down the trimmer inside a lot. Compressors in general are generally very hissy into any sort of dirt. Really both of of these are ideally suited for a clean amp, the comp could be used as a boost though with the comp all the way down..

Yeah I noticed that one of the guys that recently did a video turned his trim pot all the way down and was still getting some awesome tones.

My BE OD is VERY hissy. I use this pedal on my board into a variety of amps, but all clean channels if I'm using pedals as my main OD tone.

I don't really worry about it, as you certainly cannot hear it over drums and everything else. At home its pretty annoying but it is what it is. I have a Decimator pedal that helps to keep it from being out of control, but if I turn the Decimator up to where it shuts off the hiss, anything but full volume and hard picking gets cut off or shuts the gate in a very unnatural way.

I will say this pedal does NOT get lost in the mix. The other guitarist uses a pretty scooped tone, and this damn BE pedal all but sonically erases him from the mix, lol. I have to be careful.

Don't get me wrong, I really like how the pedals sound, but the hiss is ruining it for me. If you can get rid of 30-50% of the hiss they could quite possibly be some of the best pedal around. For the record, I have the trim pot turned down to around 9 o'clock (or approx 25%).

I agree about the clean (or very low gain) amp aspect. I totally get what you were going for with the BE-OD. I was more under the impression that the SIR was more for amps with some gain?

For reference, I was mainly looking for a pedal to use with channel 1 of the CCV. It works pretty good with any clipping setting. Channel 2 doesn't need it. The SIR is pretty good here too.

Well really the Sir compare is a compressor that does more. But still a compressor.

Hey out of curiosity, anyone know if battery power versus plug-in power makes a difference regarding noise?

Doesn't run on battery. I hear no hiss w/ mine, just typical single coil hum, which is the guitar.

Are you using an isolated power supply? What kind of pickups are you using? Are they shelled etc etc... Mine is dead quiet and my amo is cranked and my torpedo love is sitting next to my pedalboard. I'm not sure why people are having issues unless they are playing these pedals with dirty amps.

I'm using mine with a 1 Spot with 3 others pedals daisy chained one of them being a Green Rhino set as a clean boost and I'm not getting any hiss out of the ordinary for a high gain pedal but you say you're not getting any hiss at at all ?

You never want to use a daisy chain if you have other options available.

What would you recommend ? I've only ever used the 1 Spot but I was thinking of getting the Voodoo Lab pedal power

Yeah ditch that fucking One Spot.

How many pedals you got? If <5, a Voodoo Lab ISO-5 will suffice.

No real out of the ordinary hiss on mine (internal gain trim at 12 o' clock). I just have it plugged in as a stand alone and not on a pedal board. I use it in the LG Channel of the Atomica with no clipping, gain at noon, and the bright switch in the middle. Have not tried it with any other amp yet.

At the moment 4 , Delay,BE,Green Rhino,Tuner. I'm thinking about getting a medium gain MIAB pedal to round it out

Mines quiet using a one spot on kind of the worst electrical grid on earth. Honest truth.

Voodoo is great. If your thinking about getting a bunch of strymon pedals or already own some i love the new strymon power supply.

The ISO-5 should work fine for your current needs unless your delay pedal needs more than 300ma.

I'm using 2 Cioks DC-10's. I prefer the DC-10 to the PP2+ cos the Cioks has more outlets so I don't really have to daisy chain any of my pedals.

If you don't mind daisy chaining and your delay doesn;t require more than 300ma, I reckon the ISO-5 should do.

No hiss problems with my BE-OD, I use a One spot and never have Issues with either!
