Posting some clips with the Friedman Phil X.
Recently picked up this amp. Really digging it! Super versatile for a 1 channel amp. Can do cranked plexi to JCM800 to hotrodded tones, with effects loop.

The first one is some grungy riffs (had Helmet in my head), playing a Bill Kelliher Esp, loaded with Lace Sensor pups, that I just set up for a friend. Slight boost using a Griff Chiron (klone) with gain at 9 oclock, amp on high gain & low variac settings. Clean tones are rolling back guitar volume.

Sounds great brother...I have heard nothing but good things about this model and the Friedman Steve Stevens V2. Dig it!!!

The guy I got this from has the SS2 and says they're about the same on the gain sound.

Def my fav Friedman, and easily in my top 5, maybe 3, amps.

Nice work! I've heard that the X and the SS are the two to get if you are more into the raw open Marshall tone vs the darker smoother Friedman thing. Apart from the Jake amp of course.

It's been a while since I had the SS, but I feel like the X is a bit more open. Def loving it.

Just made this clip

Had a great day of amp and guitar festivities with @scottosan @Shredsmcgee and @Junk Yard Dog .
Mezzabarba Mzero, SLO, Roccaforte C80, Phil X, Splawn QR, RG550, Schecter USA Tele style, Tom Anderson Pro Am, Suhr Modern, Gibson LP, SG, Explorer, Kramer Pacer(?), Kelliher LTD, Greco LP, moat loaded with ToneNerd pickups. @griff10672 Chiron was a hit, boost of the day.

I’ve had both for a while and either could be desert island amps. The SS is easier to play and seems like the perfect recorded modded plexi tones. The X is more live rock tone. It’s still easy to play but a little more reactive than the SS. I think the X kinda starts where the best JCM800 plus pedal tone ends if that makes sense.

Totally. At the gained out end, the X is like Zakk Wylde NRFTW or Lynch Back for the Attack tones. Very much like a 2203 hit with an od, tighter lows, less skreechy highs. Lower gain switch setting, it can do EVH, Angus and Adam Jones plexi sounds. Love it. ❤️

Killer amp and the clips sound great. Get a guitar with good pickups and pots the single channel amps can do just about anything.

I can attest to the Phil X. Very cool offering. It’s stripped down but does that thing very well. I was a bit surprised having owned a lot of Friedmans which I still love the tone and feel.

Riffin on my fav ACDC tune, changes up around 1:45.
This is at low volume. You can hear my pick hitting the strings. Pretty awesome.

I notice you have a Slo 100. Do you notice note distinction between the 2 amps? I sold my X the week I got a Slo

Yes, for sure.
The X sounds great at low TV volumes, has a tighter response to pick attack, like a hot-rodded 2203 with better master volume, effects loop, less bloat and tighter lows, less skreechy highs.
The SLO has a smoother, more modern sound, sings on solos, great clean, crunch and way more gain than the X on the OD channel, quite versatile.
I like both for different things. Haven't played the SLO much since getting the X. It's good to have both.
