Friedman Runt or Smallbox?

Always chasing the tone and feel when it comes to amps. I have a Splawn Street Rod combo that I love and I also have a EVH III 50 watt head that I love/hate. Ive been looking at Friedman amps for a while online since I dont have any locally. They seems to be in between a Splawn and the EVH, maybe having the best of both. Some good deals out there for the Runt 50 but the Smallbox sounds amazing in its own right too. So Runt of Smallbox?

Are you okay with a plexi type clean or do you need a standard clean? The smallbox has a plexi type clean.

I like EL34s sound. I already have a Budda Superdrive. It sound great but the EL84 is not raw and big enough sounding for me.

To be honest I dont do a lot of clean...

I play in a cover band that plays everything from The Pretenders to Alice In Chains. I can set up the Plexi channel clean enough for my needs. I also use an Fractal FX8 with the 4CM cabling. I am extremely happy with this set up.

When not rehearsing or gigging with the band, I turn up the gain on the plexi channel. There is magic there and the BE channel is amazing as well.

If you can, try a PT-20. Raw and big sounding are two words I'd use to describe it. I've never heard an el84 amp sound so good.
