Some of you may remember that I gave my '76 Les Paul Custom to a friend because he wanted one badly and it was too heavy for my left shoulder.
Another friend, who knows me very well, although there are several thousands of miles between us, just knew that I was missing the black, short-scaled feel of a Lester - just weighted less than 4 kilos - and just send me his.
I got her two days ago, just reorganized some personal cosmetical preferences - and voilà - I'm a Lester user again. Its an Edwards 05 Laquer series, which originally comes with a '59 and a JB. I decided to switch that for a SH6 and an Alnico Custom.

This Lester doesn't need to hide behind my old one (or the other Gibsons and Heritage I've owned). Its well played in, has a super sustain, plays like a dream and "feels" even better than the "real" deal.

You guys can imagine that I'm super happy now (and its easy to guess what I will send him as a return). Why am I posting this? Well, one reason is to thank my close friend and friendship in general, the other reason is that those guys who may be looking for an excellent craftmanship in a guitar and don't give a shit whats written on the headstock should have a very close look at Edwards Guitars. This won't be my last Edwards.

Here's her:

Congrats Olaf :)

So how does this compare to the real deal that you used to have?

I agree completely, Olaf! While I have very few of what I would call "close friends," I greatly appreciate the ones I do have as well as all the long distance friends I've made over the years.

man .... nice and simple .... but gorgeous all the same ...

sweet axe

I "think" I know that guitar well. Right? :) It's a winner for sure!!! That was very nice of him and he's done similar things for me in the past. He gave me a wireless and a box of goodies one time that just floored me. What a great dude...
Yup, you know it, Chris. Its definitely a winner - I couldn't agree more about your other statement as well.

I THINK I know who it is and yes I have been lucky enough to make some real solid friends the past several years :)

Awesome news Olaf, not go dig up those leather pants, sling that plank low and bring it!!!!!

Merci Shiny.

One has to consider a few things: if you buy am older Custom (just speaking about customs here), you need to put jumbos on it for "more modern" playing styles - esp. with this flat fretboards of customs. You have to live with its weight (which wasn't a problem until I got 40 or so) and you get back an amazing sustain and tone.
Well, this Edwards looks/feels almost as cool as an older LPC, plays equally well and sounds as good. Sure, the mojo is different, but I couldn't care less. The pickups (even stock) are great, its manufactured very very well and sounds super nice with lots of sustain.
In krautland you don't have access to custom shop Gibsons easily, so I cannot compare those to this - but any other "standard" custom I had wasn't "better" in any term than this guitar. I love it - and I will get another Edwards in the future (a standard).
Funnily my neighbour, wo is a "pro", got an Edwards last week, a standard with 25th anniv. EMGs. And this Ed compared to my super nice Heritage 150CM VS, which I had for several years is also pretty close to the same league IMO.

Excellent guitars. For 800$ - not 2000$.

Werd. Joining the forum 3 or 4 years ago has opened up so many doors for me and has introduced to me to some folks who I consider to be great friends.

Life is good.

Thanks for the feeback :)

I feel Edwards GAS coming on

My favorite guitar, 98 Laquer in vintage white & Duncan 59s. Had one, got stolen a couple of weeks ago, I'm getting a replacement.
Edwards ROCK!!! - I love them more than Gibsons, great tone perfectly in tune
But I don't like to talk about them, the less people know the better, otherwise their price is going to get insanely high, looks like it's already going up.

Well, thats exactly it, Bob, Scott and Shea. I've registered to HCAF when? 2001 or so I think. And I've met some wonderful people there, most of them being around here now. If I tell certain people, that I have good friends "in the internet" they are looking at me as if I was a lonesome wanker jerking off in porn chatrooms or whatever. Some of them I've fortunately met in real life, some of them I will meet one day.
I don't want to sound like a pathetic old fart, but this community is cool as hell in many ways. Talking about what moves us - at least lots of hours per day (even if it got less over the time) - and even sharing very personal things with each other.

This forum rules. You guys rock !!!

Group hug :D

Well, few people give a shit about my suggestions (at least when it comes to guitars :D ), so I do talk about them. ;)

The only thing I would improve on them stock is the Gotoh-bridge. Not an Edwards thing, but the typical old rattle which can be found on many Gibsons and copies too.
I will replace her - an easy 50 bucks fix.

I forgot:
The neck: Its neither a 60s slim tampon neck, nor a baseball thing, but pretty close to the neck on my '76. Its "wide" at the nut (wider than the ESP stuff - compared it to an Eclipse 2 days ago), of course the fretboard is flat (hey, its a custom) and has this "meaty" feel - not an Ibanez neck, you know . . .

The Ed standards have a slightly slimmer neck, still not like a 60s-Gibson, just a lil bit than this. The '58 model (two P90s) has a fat neck though.

You may know this already, but take a flathead screwdriver and put it on the retaining wire between each saddle, then lightly tap it with a hammer. It will put small "bends" in the wire between each saddle and tighten that wire up bigtime. It works like a charm!!! That's an old trick for the ABR-1 style bridges.
Cool, I will try that. Most of them I got until now had been so worn that they went into the crap-metal directly, this here is new, so I'll give it a try.
Thanks for the suggestion, Chris.

very nice! i've only been able to try one edwards (a second hand LP special), but it was sweet.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm undecided yet - either a "lemon drop" LTS or this used one I've found on ebay - the guy just asks a bit too much money at the moment (I have to pay huge customs, hes located in switzerland . . .)

Have a look:

I`ve been on HCAF since 2001 as well, and have spoken to soo many cool people. I`ve only met Sick Mike in real life, but should meet more. Very nice axe, Olaf. If I ever get an LPC. it will probably be an Ed for me as well- The Gibbos are out of my price range, and will always be :)
