Bought direct from Diffusion, and Andy basically said, brand spankin' - I believe him. I've heard that the Suhr's are notorious for having impeccable set up's straight out of the case. In the case of my S4, the low E and A are a bit buzzy from the nut straight up well past the 12th fret. I'm wondering if this is saddle height or truss rod material..?? The reason I expect truss rod is due to the fact it shipped from Suhr to Montreal, and then from Montreal to where I am in the Pacific Northwest. Humidity? Temps? Etc?

Your thoughts - GREATLY appreciated.

Peace,
V.

PS - outside of this slight annoyance, this thing plays and sounds perfect. I know the buzz is pretty minimal as it's not apparent when amplified; but the fact is it's buzzing and that's chewing away on my sustain. Thanks!

I would also guess it is your rod adjustment. Seems odd it buzzes all the way up. Usually if the neck is too straight it buzzes in the lower frets 1-3 or so. Too much relief buzzes on 5-8 or 9th. I always put a 24" ruler down the middle of the board and measure at the 7th with a feeler. I adjust my necks to a snug .009 Sometimes a little less or more depending on the guitar and go on tweaking the bridge, saddles, from there. I have a Guthrie that Mike Ponce finished and shipped it directly to me and I still had to tweak some.

Likely the climate changes encountered during shipping moved the neck a bit. This is very common ... Just taking my Suhr guitar out from the air conditioned studio into the humidity and back again can cause a need for a slight adjustment to the truss rod. I would highly recommend learning to adjust the neck yourself. It is a pretty simple operation ... and your guitar should have come with the correct allen wrench.

There should be no need to adjust the saddle and bridge if you are keeping the same string gauge. However, this is all based on personal preferences ... if you need a more involved set up to get the guitar "feeling" just like you like it, then a pro tech should be able to get you there ...

Hope this helped,

Carl

Thanks Carl... Set up's are something I'm extremely comfortable with - and fairly well versed at when I know the product. Being my first Suhr, I just know I've heard of peeps doing some minor adjustments upon receipt of their ax and kinda blowing the whole thing. I've heard they're perfect out of the box - in my case, I believe it is wood (truss) related as I can't imagine the saddles would be that maladjusted out from the factory. So ya, I can do this no problemo, I was just looking for some chine-in's to see if this was a common situation or not.

Peace,

For support your best line of real information would be to drop us an email, we are always around I even answer emails over the weekend.
Watch the neck adjustment video, I'm sure that is all it would be. Nut height is open only.
It only take a few seconds to use the string as a straight edge to see where you are at, also make sure the bridge wasn't knocked down off the knife edge in shipping.
We are dry here so if you are humid the neck will back bow a bit requiring you to loosen the truss rod
You also have no way of knowing the humidity from where it came from since it is of course seasonal.
