What are the main sound differences and how can whether the speaker is mounted in the front vs the back make that big a difference in sound?

Hi

yes it makes a huge difference! To give you an idea: frontloaded cabs are tighter and more focussed, a bit better suited for heavier styles. Rearloaded cabinets do sound a tad more round, less focussed.

What kind of music do you play?

Also, are we talking about Diezel cabs here (specifically, the new German ones)?? Assume we are. If so, then yes, the FL are more focused, tight, and the dispersion of sound seems to be greater & more even at all angles. However, the RL ones are equally tight, but do indeed have a touch more round or softer focus. It's hard to describe but readily apparent when you play through 'em. Either way they're both tremendous cabs!

Which ones are less beamy..? And ill never ever play v30s again..they sound terrible at high volumes.

I know.. V30s cant help but sound beamy at high volumes. But then again ive never heard v30s in a "Diezel" cabinet. I have in just about everything else though and i always hear the same sound characteristics when turned up

The V-30's are not a speaker I really like at all. It is a decent speaker when not pushed but when pushed it has the harsh characteristics. Front loaded sounds best with the G12K100 and rear loaded sounds best with the hemp cone.

What exactly are the speakers in the old salt and pepper rear loaded cabinets?
Is it just custom eminence or is there a specific model.. like legends or wizards..etc..

They were an eminence speaker, nothing special. I never liked the speaker personally. The other option was a vintage 30. Of the two, I much preferred the vintage 30. The info I am sharing is from the USA side, not the German side because at the time, the US cabs were made here, and the german cabs obviously made in germany. Now all cabs are made in Germany.

I dont understand how it can make that big of a difference in the sound whether the speaker is mounted in the front of the cab or rear, not counting using different speakers which is what makes the biggest difference in sound. By moving the speaker less than an inch how does that change the dynamics, just trying to learn how it works.

It´s not just that the speakers are rear- or frontloaded, the hole construction of both cabs is 98 % differnent. You have to talk to Peter S, he is better in explaining the differences. Just a little hint. You have to hear it, so you can understand the huge sound differences!!! I´m not kidding it´s really enormous. After hearing both cabs i was a believer!!

There are a lot of different things going on. A rear loaded cab has a removable back, the front loaded does not. It is solid. The inner workings of the cabs are different...baffles, placement, etc. Wood types, so on and so forth make things sound very different (just like in guitars). When you put all those dynamics together it certainly will change things.

NOPE...i dont not want to sell any of my 3 front loaded cabinets

I changed my own custom cab from rear loaded to front loaded. With no other changes & the improvement was instant.
There is a reason Diezel & Fryette both front load, because it works.
I like the gk speakers over the v30s on both the Herbert & Pittbull.
Also like Eminence Texas Heat & Cannibas Rex. Would love to try the Lynch Super but WAY to $$$$$.

Hey Crabby...ill trade one of my new Diezel FLs... for a new Diezel RL with Hempcones...if u have one...call me

I own 4 salt/pepper grill, rear loaded---those are my vintage, twang, clean, pop, blues cabs......and I own 4 front loaded black cloth 4x12's- vint. 30 loaded---these are my heavy hitter cabs-metal,detune,etc....done sessions w/ these 8 cabs, and got nothing but tone compliments the whole way round!...
