I'm ordering a new 4x12 v30 cab with my D-Moll (very soon, hopefully), and I got to wondering about front-loaded vs. rear-loaded configurations. I've read that front-loaded setups are more aggressive sounding; was hoping folks here could give a little more substantial explanation of what the real-world difference is. I am curious as to how much difference mounting the speakers on one side of the baffle vs the other could really make...

Thanks in advance!

Got my first Diezel cab from Brad (FL G12-K100) a few months ago.

This thing is more tight, direct and aggressive sounding than other cabs I've played through.

I love it =)

Thanks all for the info! That thread you linked was great, Rezamatix. I'd done lots of searches before but I guess I just didn't have the correct terms. Searching for "FL" and "RL" seemed to do the trick...

I ordered Rear Loaded with my D-Moll because it appeared to be the only one in the country (new anyway) that I could find! I plan to order a Herbert and a Front Loaded soon, I'll try both heads with both cabinets and give my honest opinion. I cant imagine there being THAT much of a difference but who knows? For the record, the quality, craftsmanship, look, and sound of my Rear Loaded Diezel is infinitely superior to Marshall or Mesa!

I've got both.

If I _had_ to choose? It'd be my Diezel FL 4x12 G12K100 cab for the win. I've got a V30 loaded cab, and I've got varied configurations of FL and RL. Overall, I dig the feel of the FL cabs. V30s start to sound "normal" after years of use and ear fatigue. The G12Ks are - to my ears - more realistic a representation of what's truly happening with the guitar and amp.

Personal preference only though. Nothing more nothing less.

Uncle Mo

After talking it over with Brad and a few others, I decided to go with a rear-loaded cab. I must admit I'm surprised, but many of the folks I talked to said it wasn't a subtle difference at all. One of these days I would love to get both in a room and try them side-by-side.

There is difference and you will notice it.
I had the chance to play through different Cabinets at the Musikmesse this year.
Regarding the V30: The FL is more direct. But personally i prefer the RL V30.Better Cleansound IMO.

It depends what music you play and which tuning. If you play a 7 string or 8 string guitar then go wwith the K100.

The guys on here who mention specifically, using FRONT LOADED with the GK-100 or whatever are spot on. Check out the Andy Wood Gear Walkthrough where he shows his FL Diezel 4/12 with the GKs, why and how he came to use them, with his Herbert and G-System. Our setups would be identical if I'd bought the Herbie instead of my D-Moll and the FL with GKs if I'd known before shucking out $1650 for the rear-loaded with V30s. I will be honest here, using the same guitar (my Strat), I got a MUCH better sound at low volume with the used Herbert at Guitar Center through a Marshal 4x12 than I do at home with same guitar and my D-Moll and the rear loaded. My guess is the Herbert is the missing link, which is why I'm trading my back to the dealer for full credit for a Herbie. I will always be curious about VH4 and will keep my rear-loaded Diezel so when I get front load I will have a full stack and when I acquire a VH4 after my Herbie I can have two separate rigs, one with G-System and one with Axe-FX II. Good luck but yea the general consensus is when it comes to DIEZEL< esp. if you shred, get the FRONT LOADED WITH THE GK100s particularly!

Out of personal curiosity: you mean clean or lowgain, higain...or overall? Can you describe how it sounds/feels different for you?
