I'm looking at different load options and the Power Station seems to check a lot of boxes. But can someone confirm that it functions as a load box with no speaker cabinet connected?

I thought it did but was just browsing the PS manual and read this:

A SPEAKER MUST ALWAYS BE PLUGGED INTO ONE OF THESE JACKS WHEN THE AMPLI- FIER IS ON OR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR. SWITCH THE AMPLIFIER OFF OR TO STANDBY WHEN CHANGING SPEAKER CONNECTIONS OR IMPEDANCE SETTINGS.

Now I'm confused. So there's no way to use it for silent recording with an IR loader in my DAW?

Those instructions were meant for the Power Station 1 only, and they haven't updated their website with a new manual for the PS2.

The PS2 is made as a fail-safe protection for your amp head, and always reverts to a reactive load if it senses it's speaker-out cable disconnected. So you *could* just pull the speaker cab cable out of the PS2 while its running and have a load only, but that makes no sense why run the PS2 with power on (attenuating function) if its speaker out is silenced?

Thus if you want to do silent recording or playing through your DAW / cab sim box ...., etc. you hook your amp head into the PS2 as normal, but just don't turn the power switch on the PS2. Just leave it off and use the line out function into your silent unit. Its like a Suhr RL this way.

It's a reactive load regardless of whether its turned on or off, and selectable 4/8/16 ohm to match your amps and cabs.

I HIGHLY recommend this unit, it has allowed me some incredible flexibility in my rig.

I second the greatness and versatility of the PS2. Incredible piece of gear providing a lot of great features.

The PS2 is the Swiss army knife of gear. Not using it to attenuate, but for W/D set ups.
