For sale is a 2013 Suhr Custom Classic that was ordered with a variety of Scott Henderson specs, but instead with stainless steel frets.
Note that this is NOT a Scott Henderson Signature model, as Scott prefers his guitars to have nickel frets. This guitar has many specs that came on Scott's signature model (lightweight alder body, D-shaped neck, 16" radius fretboard, Fender 6-screw bridge, side jack, "not-hot" bridge single coil, SSCII system, etc.) but with the addition of stainless steel frets for increased playability and durability. With all due respect to the tastes of one of my biggest inspirations on guitar, for me the SS frets make this an improvement on the Henderson Signature Model.
This guitar plays perfectly and is in excellent cosmetic condition. Not a museum piece as it has normal handling and play-wear appropriate to a 7 year old guitar. A few notable areas of cosmetic wear on this guitar: some paint wear on the top of the headstock (please see picture) and pick scratches on the pickguard.
I can't say enough good things about how comfortable the Suhr D-shaped profile (.800 to .880) on this neck is, coupled with the 16" radius. It's one of the fastest necks I've played without resorting to the ultra-thin shredded-style necks from the '80s that compromised on tone, chording comfort, and--at times--stability. The neck of this Suhr has no such compromise. Spec-wise, the Indian Rosewood fretboard has Jumbo SS frets, a Tusq nut, 1.650 nut width, Suhr locking tuners, and a headstock painted to match the body.
The body is custom spec'ed for a Lightweight Alder body (checkout the pictured spec sheet) with a beautiful Fiesta Orange finish and weighs in consistently on my scale at 7.82 lbs with the bar attached. It also has a side jack, distinctive of Scott's guitars, with an aged green pickguard and parchment knobs, tips, and pickup covers. Pickups are Suhr ML models with a "not-hot" bridge, as Scott prefers to not have a jump in output when switching to the bridge pup.
Notably, the bridge is a traditional Fender 6-screw with bent saddles. Some people claim that John Suhr's modern take on the Fender Stratocaster isn't just different from its vintage counterpart in playability (quite an improvement, of course), but also in the tone of the instruments. On this guitar, I definitely disagree as I find the 6-screw bridge to be a key part of that classic Strat tone. If you're looking for that classic Strat tone, the 6-screw bridge is vital to that sound.
To my knowledge, the main differences between the specs on this 2013 custom order and the current Henderson spec are: no signature on the back of the headstock (of course), this neck is not roasted (Scott went to a roasted neck somewhat recently), matching painted headstock on his sig model (Scott dropped this feature around the time he went to a roasted neck), and this guitar doesn't have the completely disabled tone pots in positions 2 and 4 (Scott may have gone back to tone controls in positions 2 and 4 lately). This guitar came spec'ed with the bridge tone control enabled in position 1, but bypassed in position 2. Tone controls are enabled in all other positions: 3, 4, and 5.
Additionally, this guitar comes with a gorgeous G&G combo-locking hardshell case, spec sheet, wrenches, an additional trem bar (different lengths). The case is a bit more worn than it looks in the pictures, but is still in good shape.
Please contact me with any questions.
Shipping is CONUS only, typically via UPS. I pack bulletproof with new boxes and supplies, I buy insurance for the full value, and I always require a signature. I make it my goal to have as little shipping turnaround time as possible.
