Fuzz like clipping when I use a Delay in the series loop...

...of my Mod 50.

I have an Empress SuperDelay, and I'm getting this strange clipping noise. I noticed it is mainly (or only) on the repeats...On booth loops.

I replaced the cables, the fx loop tube (the one in the middle) and it wasn't that.

Also did a test on my Mesa Lonestar, and the pedal works fine...

Any Ideas!!!
Thanks...Carlos

Is the output of the loop clipping the pedals input?

I really don't know...I'll have to check if the pedal has an internal input gain switch.

Seems like I didn't check the manual well enough...Bummer!!! :aww:

Both loops are designed for line level operation. Though some floor type and tabletop effects may work, the loops are designed basically for rack mount type effects units. Not guitar level floor pedals. You will know an effect is not made for line level if, when you plug it into the loop, you notice distortion and a loss of volume. If you do experience a distortion problem with effects, this can often be remedied by reducing the master controls on the modules and increasing the main master setting.

So that means the send is overloading the Delay's input...

the superdelay only handles a -10db signal, which is stupid.. i mentioned this to Steve @ empress and he has a mod to make it handle +4db loops.. you could send it back to him to get it modded i'm sure. he's a good dude.

yeah steve at empress is awesome just send it to him to get modded and youll be good to go, or get something like the suhr minimix.

That's good to hear...I just emailed him...

I want to keep my stomps...

suhr mini mix won't fix this problem.. the problem is the loop is too hot.. if it was phasing out, a minimix may help.

minimix would work though more than the application calls for. the other poster solution looks perfect for him.

"The MiniMix II can now accept both high-impedance instrument level signal or low-impedance line level signal, making this an invaluable addition to your rig."

Try turning down the masters on the individual channels and increase the main master to compensate. The loops are effectively between those two controls. Reducing the channel volume settings reduces the level at the send into your effects. Turning up the main master increases the effects return gain.

its not a high/low impedance issue.. its a LEVEL issue. you either need to get the empress modded or use a level shifter. unless the minimix is converting from +4db to -10db signals, its not going to work.

I think I'll just go with the Line Level Shifter, it is the easier (faster) way to solve this.

Believe it or not through all this I was having some thoughts of changing all my pedalboard, for some type of "multi" thing, G System, Line 6 M13 or M9, Nova System...it turns out that all of these are instrument level, I don't know if the G System is, but either way people are using it through the Line Level Shifter for some reason.

I figured, if I had to buy the Level Shifter either way, I'll just keep my pedalboard. Maybe in the future I'll just change my (fx loop) pedals, for the Eventide ones which have a level switch on both ins and outs.

Bruce I tried what you suggested, and it worked...but you really have to be aware on where the Masters are, because a little extra sends the pedal into clipping.
