So, on the VH4 the channel volumes dictate the send level of the loop right? I usually run some delay (Empress Superdelay and Boss DD-3) in the series loop. But anything over 9:00 on the channel volumes clips the pedals in my loop. And I'd like to run the channel volumes higher. What can I do? Is the only option to buy a rack effects unit that has an adjustable input level/gain control?

In series, the actual output of the pedal/stomp/effect is independent of the channel volume - I believe. So it could be you've got your pedal output cranked, and this is what's causing the problem - it has to be at parity with the signal in.

Maybe I'm out to lunch on this one... But I have the VH4S, use the Serial and Parallel loops, and if my memory serves me correct, never had a problem with the Serial useage clippage.

Secondly, you've had this set up for a while, no?? If there's clipping just starting, could be a return tube problem.

No, it's always been like that.

According to the VH4 user manuel, the channel volumes control the level of the signal coming out of the "send" jacks. And anything over 9:00 clips my pedals. The Boss DD-3 has no adjustable level control. Only an effect "level." Which is just like a mix control. It has no way to adjust the signal strength coming in nor out. It's just a stomp box. The Empress, however, has a level control and a mix control for adjusting the effect mix and output volume. But the output volume isn't the issue. It's the input volume from the amp to the pedal. I think...

Peter, not sure what you mean.

I think Peter meant that the output level (volume) of the loops isn't that high. It's more on par with an active pickup I'd guess. I don't have any issues with my diezels. If I were you I'd just leave the chan volumes lower and call it a day.

The send level is about -10dB with
the noon setting on the volume knobs
concerning the distortion channels.
