FX loop placement

Just curious here....

Both of my non Marshall 2204's had a passive loop placed between Master wiper and PI input, but I 86'd them and added zero loss FX loops (with no return level control) between Treble wiper and Master Vol input as recommended on both. Both work well and have no complaints.

So my question is: What is the difference between putting the zero loss loop between the Master Vol input and Treble wiper (with no loop return control), versus between Master Vol wiper and PI input (with loop return control)? What is gained and what is lost with either? Example: BE100 places the loop between Vol and PI like you would on an older NMV Plexi.

If you place the loop after the MV wiper then the MV effectively becomes your send level. You’d only do this if you have a return level too, as without a return pot the only way you can get your signal to noise ratio right is to run the amp loud.

Thank you! I had assumed that, but wanted to double check first.
