Have a chance to pick up a cab with the reissue 65’s.

Would they be awesome with Jose, 2203 and a IIC+?? :)

I have an original G12-65 with an Heritage in the same cab. The difference is so small that it probably does not exceed general production variance. So, whatever you hear about the original G12-65 holds true the the reissue.

They’re fairly dark compared to most Celestions but really great speakers for certain applications. In my experience they pair best with brighter amps, sounds like you’ll be fine.

The only (therefore the best) 65s you'll find in the classifieds right now are the ones I'm selling. Did I mention they are the best ones you'll find for sale right now, as of this writing, here in the classifieds?

One of my fav speakers. My C+s loved them, and they are arguably the perfect speaker for any stock/modded Marshall. Pushed they give a higher powered greenback vibe. Now, there were a bunch of different cones for them but I've probably had 5 cabs with them(currently have a 1979 65 cab) and the only difference is some were brighter than others. They all had the same mids/lows. The lows are not as tight as a V30 but they aren't loose. When you put volume to them they really wake up and shine; and sound good low as well.
Your amps will dig them Imo.

I didn’t like them. Too muffled and dark sounding for my taste, even when loud. At the time I had them, I was mostly playing my iic+ and Cameron Jose modded Marshall SLP. They came stock in my Kerry Wright 412 cab. Literally almost anything else I tried in that cab since then sounded way better to me and really woke the cab up vs those stock 65’s

I wonder if yours were the 444 cone Bass versions...they seem darker than the others I've owned. But, not that dark when pushed...maybe yours were worn out? There's a dog in every speaker group I'll bet...
When I run my 72 with my 65 cab and 72 Pulsonic cab the 65s are just as bright, if not brighter.

They need a lot of volume to sound good...
I prefer brighter and more in your face speakers...

Timely thread. I'm going to check out a 1980 full stack (1960a & b) with stock g12-65s today.
I typically like tight n bright. Yet, many folks say these are the best speakers/cabs for a 2204.
Guess I'll find out after work.

They were the heritage reisssues. Played them plenty loud. One thing about that particular cab too is that it’s much more transparent than my other cabs in hearing the speakers voicing. When I swapped them out it sounded like a completely different cab as it always does with swaps in that one. Back then though I didn’t yet test speakers in isolation to really hone in on their voicing like I would now

I hate them. Muffled, congested, and honky. I recently sold off a pair of reissues and have a quad of 1777 Rolas sitting in boxes.

So how do they change when you give them some volume?

It’s funny on the warehouse thread there is discussion how the et65s don’t hold together well at higher volume, but they work great for me at lower volumes. Always been curious about the g12-65s, but only run into a set that was not healthy in a crate combo amp.

Just like almost all the medium magnets they sound kinda fizzy when the play quiet...
My Heritage G12H30 sounds great in every volume...

That’s how I remember the reissues 65’s I had being. I haven’t tried vintage versions though

I love both of these cabs with the Larry Dino…Different tones but each is magic.
Even together they are great!

But, after experimenting with two cabs at 8 ohms, (which is an insane, huge wall of sound), I think I still slightly prefer the ‘one’ 4x12 tone.
…but that changes like the weather😂

The ‘65’s are 1980’s and the Blackbacks are 1976’s, both are 16ohm cabs.
