I'm wondering if it's worth to pick up a quad of G12H 30 watt speakers. I know Mark favors these for his amps. I already have a couple 4x12's with 25 watt greenbacks from the mid-seventies....

I'm just wondering if I would really notice much of a difference by switching to the 30 watters?

Awesome. When I get around to it, I'll just get a quad of them and stick them in one of my 4x12's that isn't being used much (currently V30 and 75's X pattern).

30s and 80s mixed.... thats the meat and grind! :D

My 2 new Mills cabs left today. The 4x12 straight AB is set up this way. Sounds like you and Tony have been swapping recommendations. Also have a 2x12 bottom extension loaded with 2-Black Labels. Should part he Red Sea with this set up!

Completely. The 30's dont break up as fast and to me, have a nice grind when pushed. The bottom end is tighter as well

You mean the anniversary models? For some reason the 25 greenback heritage sound tighter than the 30 watt heritage models in my cab. The 30 watters are thicker but not as tight. Are the blackbacks the tightest of them all? Your clips sound real tight, and I noticed one had a mix of 65's as well. Maybe that was the trick, or your solid state rig helping out. I would love to hear a dry clip through the cab of your choice.

I was thinking of getting (4) hellatones from avatar... The broken in GH12's...

Just get yourself a quad of Scumbacks or the original Blackbacks and be done with it..... ;)

Are the Blackbacks tighter than pre rolas? The pre rolas are tight but some kind of greasy midrange thing happening. Which is great but when you want to get heavy it's not the greatest.

I've owned blackback 25's and they were tight as teeth, but not meaty enough for what I like. I'm talking 30 watters when I refer to the Blackbacks.

I have a quad of prerola g12m 25 greenbacks and a quad of blackback g12h30 and they are VERY different sounding speakers the g12h30 blackbacks are definitley tighter meatier better suited to heavier stuff,to my ears at least

I never tried scumbacks but I read they are meant to be reproductions of prerolas if thats the case then they wont sound the same as blackbacks

Where would a quad of original classic lead 80's fit, I can get a marshall jcm 800 cab loaded with original cl80's. It sounded good in the store. It will matched up with a Fortin cali jmp. Mainly used for the 80's hard rock stuff.
