Yesterday I finally had the plessure to play my VH4 thru my Diezel frontloaded 4x12 loaded with Celestion G12K-100s in a metal band situation and I must say that it was the best metal guitar sound I ever had. These speakers really come to life when pushed hard. Absolutely incredible  I can't say how much better they sound compared to the V30s IMO.

I encourage everyone who hasn't tried that cabinet with a VH4 to do so.

It also sound very nice with Herbert.

Now I have to put some Hempcones in my rearloaded 4x12 :D

hi markus,

i play a 4x12 cab with g12k100 too since august 2009 with my vh4, great metal sound but also good for other styles. i play in a rock/metal-coverband.
as you mentioned, much better than v30´s.
my cab is one of the new cabs from dillingen/germany.
the other guitar player in the band plays a herbert with an engl 2x12, which is a good combination with my setup.

greets
chris

I really have to try that combination in my other frontloaded 4x12 cabinet. Do you notice any phase "issues" or something like that?

No, not yet!

it´s great. you can use either the two V30, the two G12K100 or all four speakers together. ´till now I don´t have any "issues" with that. BTW: I build a isocab myself with a G12T75. That sounds great too.

Grüße!

When I received my latest FL Diezel 4x12, loaded with G12K100's I was DULY impressed and haven't had the urge or the need to change one thing. It hauls!! And the matching to the VH4S is perfect - tonally, hamonically, power, and full on SPL - it's a winning beast of a cab

Have you tried 2 of those 12s in a cab?? I tried my Rivera head out on that G12K100 4x12 cab and it was just massive and pissed. It was perfect. Me and that big ass 4x12 are not gonna bond, although it is sonic bliss. My back and my optimism want a pair of G12K100s in a Port City cab to sound as large as the 4x12.

Would there even be phase issues? I figured the only way this would occur is if the speakers were wired incorrectly? I'm pretty sure you could tell if there was an issue...?

I have a V30 on the left and a G12K-100 on the right in my Diezel 2x12FL cab and all works amazing well together. One is more scooped sound and the other more mid-based....hence, a nice balance when it all mixes in.

:)

im still running the 2 V30s/ 2 G12K100s with my VH4...SLAYS!!! best of all worlds to me. :D

+1 on that (only difference: I use a herbert ;-) )

I also just got my 4x12 FL Custom K100 last week to go with my Herbie, but to be honest I think they sound a bit metallic and harsh. It's probably due to the fact the speakers need a break-in ??? Do you experience that same thing ? I was used to a Mesa Oversized 4x12 with V30.

Other than that the cabinet is massive, and very well build.

I'll try to throw 2 Vintage 30 in there...we'll see.

Never tried a 2x12 config with G12K100's. It'd be interesting, they're pretty linear drivers...no spikes or weirdness along the sonic spectrum. They'd either sound sterile and flat, unresponsive, or, they could sound like a decent 4x12 coming out of a STELLAR 2x12, if that makes any sense.

I tend to stick to the 4x12s, albeit, I'm really f'n tempted to get into some 2x12's just for space and hauling around. But at the end of the day, having a 4x12 behind me or in front of me is unbeatable in the air-movement department. I just think they're overkill - and that's what I love about 'em :D

Peace,
V.

Interesting! I own the Diezel 4x12" FL with G12K100. I am now considering supplementing it with another V30 4x12" cabinet, either RL or FL.
I play metal! So what do you guys think would work best together with the one I've got already? :-)

To me, the VH4 sounded best in a front load with all V30's. That's just me though. The K100's are always going to be a little stiff for my liking.

It's all very super personal, no right or wrong way whatsoever, it's all up to one's own ears!! Just because there may be an RT collective that chooses one way over the other, in many case of these subjective opinions, it means jack. It's all entirely up to you...

I'm an odd duck. I'm trying to get away from the V30's... They are SO common out there today and everyone's just fine with the middy spike noise they have, I'm thinking - hey, one thing I like is uniqueness to my sound - so this is driving me further and further away from V30's. But like I said, I'm an odd duck. They do have their good points for sure - I've got a 4x12 loaded with them and they sound choice with that head. I've had Diezel heads thumping through cabs with V30's and to me?? They sucked compared to others... I got my G12K FL loaded cab and I was very pleased with it from Day No.1, not need to change shit up.

So - hard to say, it's all very personal, and there's no right or wrong. My next set up will be loaded with Eminence P50E's as per Fryette's design, going in head first as I've never used 'em before....so we'll see. One thing I can say is, Eminence or not, Fryette designed or not, I'm more stoked to try a cab with something OTHER than V30's regardless :D

Peace,
V.

TO EACH THEIR OWN TONE...!!

Today I played with Peter Stapfer @ NAMM, had him set me up with a VH4, and we went back and forth between the K100 FL cab, the V30 R cab, and the Hempcone R cab.

to me...unless YOU are downtuning, the K100 isn't that cool by itself. But mixed with V30's, sounds good. (2 cabs together. dunno about X pattern).
the Hempcones are definitely...more upper midrange?
the V30's seemed darker, but some folks thought they sounded best.
It all came down to guitar playing style.
for My style, we decided K100's/V30s
however, I did like the Hempcones too...they were just...different...would work well in a band situation.

good luck!

Absolutely agree. It's an opinion and everybody's got one. I find that when it comes down to it, most of the discussion lends itself to what you intend to do with the mids. Me, I am a scooped player and make it up with presence for crunch and set up a lead channel for more creamy lead tone, at moderate volumes anyway. So, the 30's serve me well. I tried to get on the V30 haters bandwagon, but got depressed when I lost my tone that has been with me for so long. So, they're back! I have tried and tried but just cannot get any version or brand of a Greenback to really suit me one damn bit.

My Blue Face ships Tuesday from the Biergarten. I am pretty pumped about that as I didn't like being without a VH4 and will be running it with one of my Marshall's. Peter can then start to work on Adam Jone's and Het's new one's :D
