Hey guys, I have a Diezel VH4 with a Boss NS-2 Noise suppressor pedal because I just get way too much feedback if its not on. I keep hearing people say that you dont need it because the amp is very quiet but Ive always had the opposite. I use PRS guitars and have a few pedals in front of the amp. I do play out loud volumes so I guess its normal that I get feedback, but if some of you still dont get this, can you please let me know what you did? Im wondering if its maybe the cables, I bought a whole bunch last year, same brand, but at the moment I cant remember what it was. Standard quality. Id like to switch them all to Evidence cables, but it will cost me an arm and a leg to switch them all. Im wondering if its the length of the cables as well or if its because some cables are close to plugs from my Furman power conditioner.

Thanks

Distance from the amp that you typically play at...??

V.

I usually play a few feet away from the amp and the cabs, but when Im practicing only.
But I do notice that even when I play further away from the amp, like in a show, I still get feedback, maybe my pickups are really hot?

I just got a vh4 and I feel your pain to some degree. The first thing to do is lower your gain. Live you typically don't need more than "noon". That said I still get feedback on channel 4. You might want to mess with your eq a little. Lowering your pickups, using pickups that aren't so hot. (diezels love low output vintage style pickups). Roll back your guitar volume a bit? Try a different or smaller cab... Try a friends or bandmates guitar. If all else fails I do not recommend it, but you could put some sort of feedback eliminator in the loop. Most importantly lower the gain!!! It still sounds brutal!

I don't think it's the cable unless u are talking about "noise/hiss" ohh and try plugging straight into the amp to see if that helps.

Are you also 100% sure your preamp tubes (esp. V1) are OK and not e.g. microphonic?

I had the same issue until I removed the cover from my PRS' bridge pickup. I am 90% sure this will fix it if your bridge PU has a cover.

It's what the guys had been doing since the 60s, and it still works ;)

Settings especially Gain on Ch3 and4?
I recently played a VH4 and found that with hot pickups I can go to 11 on Ch3 and like 10 on Ch4 when playing at band volume.
Tubewise I can only recommend the Ruby 12AX7AC5HG+ in V1-3, quietest and best sounding preamp tube I've come across so far.

I can lower the gain on all amps :scared:

nooooo!!!!!!!!

i play with ALOT of volume & gain past 12. dont have any issues...even when im right next to it. Ditch the PRS pickups...or better yet the PRS.

Trust me, it's the pickup caps. Take them off and you'll be fine.
Or better: Get some potted Bare Knuckles

Props to both replies from Hunter and Pauly - most certainly... Ditch the covers on the bridge pickup, or if you're not too partial to the pups themselves, get something boutique in there that'll knock the socks off anything else - aka Bareknuckle pups!! They'll melt the first few rows of your audience.

Remove the covers. Period. Remove the PRS, if need be. And Poppa!!!!! NO foul language like THAT on THIS board - okay!!??!!! :gethim: Don't you be messin' with your gain...!!! Not after years of searching for it like I and many of us here have...!!

Peace :D

PS - try it with another guitar too... And if it continues to squeel like a stuck pig, go with some new pre's in the head.

Peter, can you put MORE gain on your amps ?? (not only channel 2- aka Papa Mod for Roidrage)

:hys: :hys:

I run Dimarzio Super 3 pickups (435 mV output) into my VH4 and don't have any feedback problems. Check tubes, speakers, switch from cable input to wireless and check your EQ settings.

Cheers,

Hey guys, thanks for all the info.
My V1 preamp is actually microphonic because when I change channels from 3-1, 1-3 etc I hear the ping sound, and Peter already mentioned I should switch to the preamp tube you guys were talking about. So Ill do that first. Didnt know it could cause feedback so thats good to know.

Hunter: I wish it was that, but my PRS doesnt have covers on the pickups, and someone else asked what channel this was on, and it was on channel 3 and my gain is at about 2-3

Pauly: Ya I think I might change the pickups too, not too crazy about the stock PRS pickups, Id love to get a Suhr guitar, but maybe later on.

Someone else mentioned about getting bareknuckle pickups, this is for the bridge that you recommend it?
I only use the bridge pickup. I wanted something with a lot of low end punch, so no breaking apart for palm muting no matter if its lower or higher on the neck, but still want my sound to sound natural and to still get nice clear highs

I am a big fan of the Emerald. For lower gain I like the Black Dog. For higher gain the MiracleMan

....hey dont even touch my prs..... :D :D , i dont think prs is the problem, i had a very interesting thing with this...i had been playin herbies for 7 years...always with prs. and at the years gone by, my gain is lower than ever, same sound or even better. and the prs pick ups are the 57-08, they have 7 or 8 k of output, the amps breath more, and have more bottom end and liquid tone.
i used s.duncans and emg some times, but was a pain in the ass with the feedback, i am using a boss ns2 for the solos, cause i add a boost, but, if you play at a normal volume and the gain is in his normal position( 1 or 12, clock seeig), you must not have issues.
and i must say that a good cable is ok, but, dont throw your money...cordial is the brand! i bought every single cable to cordial, and no hum, no hiss, no nothing but good sound.

anyway, try better pick ups, is difficult to get the 57-08 of prs, but you can get closer in burenuckles or motorcity...and remember, low output...better sound. the diezels have lots of gain, don put extra gain in your guitar.

Hey Berni, thanks a lot, Ill check those 57-08 pickups, but just out of curiosity, which PRS models do you have?
I have a Custom 24 & CE24

And do the 57-08s sound better on a clean channel than the stock pickups in my PRSs which are the Bass and Vintage pickups?
I find no matter what I do, every time I strum a chord on the clean channel on the VH4, is sounds like channel 2, I can never get it to be 100% clean. Im not saying its the amp, but my pickups are very hot and my Gain on channel 1 is low too.

Thanks
