Hi
today I finally received my very first tube amp the Diezel Herbert together with a Diezel 4x12RC Cabinet  now since I dont have any experience using tube amps it would be darn helpful to get some advice in getting started. How do I connect amp/box, which cables to which ports? Which cables to use? Turning on Run or Power first? Is it regular that no manual was shipped with the package? Thanks in advance.

My advise,

read the manual first. Invest in some really good cables all around. Don't skimp on the cables. You will have a lot choices here. Loo at the earlier post on this forum that has some sample settings you can try. What effects do you have? :gethim:

So what are going to be doing with your Herb? What style of music are you into?

You should of gotten a manual.
get the PDF manual from the diezel site.
download it and read it. :coffee:

thx, already read the manual. But did you receive a printed version of the manual? Which cables do you use (to connect amp / cabinet)? I've got a Line6 Echo Park and a Dunlop Cry Baby.

To connect the amp to the head, you will need a speaker cable, not a guitar cable.
I use www.evidenceaudio.com cables exclusively and love the natural tone they allow to come through.
I also use their guitar cables as they don't seem to color the tone of the guitar and amp at all.
Use only good quality cables all around and you will hear the difference once you get used to the amp's sound.
Make sure the ohm input you use on the head where you plug in the speaker cable is matched to the speaker cab.

they dont seem to distribute evidence audio in europe (or at least not where i could buy them). What else do you recommend? What about the length?

They do distribute Evidence Audio cables in Europe. What country you are living in?

But, the Evidence Audio cables are very expensive (a way too expensive!) here in Europe, thus I recommend you to search for other alternatives as well.

Vovox cables are a suberb alternative, but expensive as well. Also, I personaly like Spectraflex cables. They are extremely durable and have a nice, wide middle frequency characteristic. They are not that overpriced as Evidence Audio here in Europe, but are still relatively expensive due to the importation etc. cost factors.

I am using Vovox for my speaker cables and Spectraflex for everything else (=in front of the amp, patching and some pedal runs from channel inserts of VH4)

I also have a question.

Which one of the speaker-outs of the herbert do you have to connect to a Mesa Recto box?
Herbert out is 2 x 4 Ohm, 2 x 8 Ohm, 1 x 16 Ohm

Mesa Boxes have 8 Ohm Mono, 4 Ohm Stereo

So you plug in one of the 2 8 Ohms from Herbert into the 8 Ohm Mono of the Recto Box?

I have a herbert and a recto and yess put one of the 2x8ohm to the single 8ohm on the cab or if you wanted to use both sides two cords in the 2x4ohm to the 4ohm jacks on the cab i like just the one seemed to have a nicer sound to it

Dude...you went from a Hyundai to a Mercedes   Download the manual from the Diezel site. My VH4 didn't have one either. Always turn the amp on and off from the standby position. It lets the tubes heat up and cool down from idle plate voltage. You can use any cable for starters, but invest in a speaker cable. I use planet waves 12 gauge speaker cable. Match the impedance of your cab to the right speaker input. Start tweaking knobs and enjoy. You won't hurt anything, but your relationship with your neighbors  .
