I was listening to some YouTube clips of the 500T that sounded so good, I decided to put the stock pickups back in my Les Paul Classic, and see how they played with the 5153. It think it works out pretty well. lol Channel three. Gain starts out at noon and then I bump it to about 12:30.

Yeah, they sound great in your clip. I like these a lot and wouldn't think of changing them in my old lp classic+. I have a lp custom that I have tried many different pickups and I think I am going to put in either a super distortion or a 500t as a last swap.

Sounds great!

What's in the neck? Whatever it is sounds tight and non-muddy.

500T in the bridge and a 496R in the neck.

Sounds pretty damn good.... Has me rethinking swapping out the 500t in my Les Paul.

As I said in your thread, get some good 500k pots before you ditch the 500T. If you do that and tweak the height, its actually a great sounding pickup.

I gotta say they sound great. Im going nuts trying to find a pickup that sounds great in my R9. I may try these.

Yeah, they take a lot of heat from the corksniffers as the 500t isn't another paf clone and is somewhat overwound and has ceramic magnets. Bottom line is that they have a great crisp crunch tone and don't ever sound muddy or boomy as many others do. They clean up nice with guitars volume knob too. Sometimes a paf doesn't quite have enough under the good to push my old Marshall's into overdrive early and the 500t does this yet still sounds like a Gibson humbucker.

I was never crazy about mine after doing pots/caps swaps but I wanted something a little more mild.

Your clip sounds kick ass though and the T sounds better than I remember.

What do you set the PU height at?

I use the Gibson factory spec. 4/32 on the bass side and 3/32 on the treble. I've tried several different heights, but ended up using Gibson's recommendation.

They aren't the only game in town for sure. I'm coning out of a PAF phase now. For the past several years I've been on a hard core low output pup kick.

i hated them in my guitars....hate them in the room, but they sound REALLY good recorded.

They sound badass in an explorer, or other solid mahogany guitars

I had a 500T in my LP Classic...good sounding pickup, but got a bit muddy for me. Just threw in a set a Motor City 2nd Degree Black Belts on whim...amazing pickups! A good bit more clarity, more responsive, and clean up way better rolling back the volume.

Motor City pickups are pretty awesome, but I find it difficult to believe that a 500t sounds in any way muddy. What kind of amp are you using?

Not changing 496R/500T's in my Classic Plus anytime soon!!

I agree. They are clear, and tight, through my Marshall JVM.

i think it's the mids....something about them are too forward for my ears in my guitars that they were in.
