I haven't played one of these yet but I'm intrigued. Lighter body, 498 pickups, Grover tuners, no frills, etc. It is almost like an SG with an LP shape. Slab of mahogany. I'm looking for a lighter backup guitar for my Classic and this seems pretty cool.

Looks like LP jr thickness?

If so it should be pretty lightweight.

I have lusted after a custom lite for years....this one.....I'm not digging it.
I want to try one and see what vibe I get. I gotta tell you, I played a Gibson Les Paul Junior yesterday and my G.A.S. is gone for one of those. Not my thing and wanted to dig it.

I have a super nice studio sitting in my music room right now and I hate it. I have never played a studio yet that I liked. I'm afraid these will be the same.

That's funny you say that because I have one of those blacked out Studios and my wife loves hoe it looks but I can't stand it. I've taken it for a setup twice and still just doesn't do it for me. It is weird.

The colors and matching headstock are cool, and the 490R/498T set is a favorite of mine. Would've liked to see them keep the locking tuners (I guess the neck carve wouldn't have worked). I'm not a fan of the sound from most of the thinner-bodied LPs (regardless of pickups), and probably wouldn't go for one of these myself, but the lighter weight and playability while at least looking somewhat unique can make it a serviceable backup sure.

Oh, God... the dreaded 490R/498T set. BLECCH.

490R is mud, 498T under gain sounds grainy, like there's steel wool wrapped around each note. I never liked them in the Gibsons I sold when I was in retail. I figured I'd try a 498T in a Floyd equipped Kramer made in 1987, so I bought I used one. Didn't like it all all. Very irritating to my ears.

Cesar, please come up with a better "go-to" set of pickups for your guitars! You're the big Kahuna at Gibson now. MAKE IT HAPPEN! PLEASE!

I consider Gibson a guitar company not a pickup company. In my opinion, all of their pickups are placeholders for real pickups.

They are modernizing designs like this, i say it’s time for them to modernize their headstock and finally solve their tuning stability issues.

Through a cranked 4 hole Marshall that set is gold IME. Lower that neck pickup down, raise the pole pieces. The 498 has a killer bite to it with greenbacks. I consider the 490r good enough that I wouldn't spend over a hundred bucks swapping to a '57 classic. I did that once and there was pretty minimal difference. Controversial opinion: The more pickups I try the more I think Gibson pickups are some of the best pickups out there.

I'm sure I had a guitar back in the day with these. I'll have to see if I get one and if I don't dig it, put another Tonenerd in there. I love mine in thr Classic!

I got a custom lite! Best guitar ever.
