Gibson is here to stay, too big to just let "Gibson" disappear. Someone will bring it back to glory. Fender & Gibson, like Marshall and VOX, will be here for our lifetime. It's now just a word to sell stuff!

There's Quality coming from those companies you listed, but you have to sort through lots of junk to get there...

You can build the absolute best stuff, but if no one buys it or it is out of reach price-wise of the average worker then your business model will not survive. I am surprised Gibson's creditors are allowing another restructuring but I see they went chapter 11 bankruptcy. Once they liquidate their debt and screw their creditors some investor's might buy them looking for a quick pump and dump, I doubt they will return to their former glory.

My old company struggled for years after the 2008 crash with short term financing hoping for a turnaround and or mergers that never happened because to their debt load and kept driving the company further into debt and bankruptcy, they finally filed chapter 11 in 2015 which allowed the company to expel debt and finally the company sold just to allow the owners and investors to get out with something. It's brutal out there.

Guitar Center is next to default, the credit agencies Moody's and S&P have rated them accordingly... likely to default for 2018. I have read that the creditors have rejected GC's restructuring plans so far.

Best thing that has happened to Gibson IMHO. Henry J. needs to go and along with his "lifestyle" company purchases that brought the company into debt. Now the new owner/s should concentrate on making guitars. This is the guy who skipped NAMM and brought Gibson to CES. SMH.

Now let the pre and post Henry Gibson Les Paul debate start.

Guitar Center is done for. There is really no need for a middle man in today's market. I just purchased my first recording PC, did some research and checked around for pricing. It was the same cost to buy direct from the software companies as it was the resellers, so I bought direct. As to Gibson, they are overpriced and guitars, unlike software, get better with age. The fact that they sold 100K plus instruments a year is astounding. We play guitar, but what band on the radio that is current, plays guitar? There is no market and Asia is so dominating on the manufacturing side, that I just don't see how Gibson comes back without drastically shrinking their footprint to something closer to Dean.

I have a feeling my Custom Shop Les Paul Historic Reissues will be appreciating in value soon.

I have always loved Gibson guitars and agree this is probably the best thing that could happen to them. I think they got sucked up into their own hype and thought they could come out with anything and people would automatically buy.

Gibson and Fender are the AC/DC and Slayer of the guitar world. Don't come up with a bunch of fancy models. Just give the customer what they have always wanted with occasional tweaks and adjustments.

I hope they can figure out a way forward and survive... but it will be a struggle. It would be sad for such an ICON to go away, but many companies have and that is the reality of the world in which we live today. Major banks and politically connected companies get bailed out with taxpayer dollars while others are left to struggle.

I know it's not music related but did you see that Ford announced they are ceasing production of all cars by 2019/2020 all except the Mustang? GM is dropping 6 car models from their lineup. I had heard car sales were down... but this is kind of confirms that the whispers were true showing people have little to no discretionary income.

Bonamassa... really?

Shocked that he has that sort of dough. Maybe part of a group... backed by Chinese buyers?

Bonamassa has a lot of money and wealthy business associates. If anyone could pull the brand back to center he / his consortium could.

FIXEd!

I'm pretty certain his daddy isn't rich, unless it's from Joe's fame   . I'm from the same area he grew up in, his dad tried opening a guitar shop around here a few years ago. It was a small place with nothing particularly special and ended up going out of business after a year or so.

That being said, buying Gibson would be the ultimate gear hoard.

I'm not a fan of his music, but the guy knows a lot about vintage gear. If anyone can at least steer the R&D, marketing side, it would be him. As far debits and credits, I'm not sure a musician is the best person to manage a multi-million dollar takeover.

I think they need to drastically cut back on models. Like just have a Studio, Standard, and Custom. Make them right and reduce the prices.

Totally agree but will say they kind of have a good thing going with the vintage vibe (heavier, old style pickups, pickguard) and modern (hotter pickups, no pickguard, etc.).

I doubt it, most musicians are morons with money.
