Gig tonight... gonna use the SL channel B as my main tone

SO we got a gig tonight, and I think I'm gonna try out using the SL, channel B, as my main rhythm tone, live. I really want to see if that will be enough gain for me.

I tried it the other night at practice, and for me, that was probably the best tone I've ever heard out of my Mod50. Not that I've EVER had a bad tone, but man... that SL channel B is just amazing. I like how the gain knob goes right up to the sasturation point, but not any further. YOU have to take it further, by digging in, and cranking the master volume.

Krang! Good word man, that's what I'm talking about. It definitely does have Kerrrraaaaang!!!!

I think because of it's *lack* of saturation, it has a really quick, hard attack. And I dig that.

I really hate the words "Open", and "percussive", but it really is.

To me, it's just a grittier, more happening sound than the SL2. SOO much more attitude and expression. LOVE the SL. Nice cleans too!

I guess I'm a plexi kind of guy, than! Who knew? :D

Open. Percussive. Great descriptions... I'd add: Immediate. Ballsy. Grinding (in a good way). Detailed.

SL B, gain max has the perfect "Krang" to it. It has plenty of gain to my ears. so awesome!

That's how mine is set, too. I have B cranked and A set up for a pushed SRV-type clean.

It worked out really well. halfway thru the set, the soundguy turned my guitar off in the monitors. Why, I have no f*cking clue. I'm so tired of sh*tty soundguys. Anyway...

But for the beginning of the set, it sounded great. Felt like plenty of gain for me! Nice big crunch, fast attack, and that just-on-the-edge-of-saturation roar.

SL Channel B is magic when you get the output section cooking a little bit. It has more than enough gain for me.

Nick, were you boosting it at all?

Precisely. I wish I could have cranked the output section a bit more at the gig to be honest. That for me, is when I feel like the amp is really alive.

I wasn't boosting it at all for the rhythm tone. I probably should have for the solos, but I forgot a damn boost pedal, because I normall don't have to use one with the SL2 or EG3/4.

I just love the option of basically feeling like you're taking a new "amp" to a gig, but you don't have to re-do your entire pedaboard system/rig setup.

It's a beautiful thing!

Sounds awesome Nick, I know what you mean about a new amp! Hehe

The SL sounds like it is similar to the Randall Plexi. A friend has a completely modded Randall Plexi and it kills me the tone is so good.
