I'm looking to pick up a nice 1x12 combo that does good metal tone(s). I love chunk, but I really need clarity too since I do a lot of inverted and odd chords. I know NOTHING when it comes to combos really. I was looking at maybe that new Line/Bogner 1x12, since I know Line does decent metal, plus it has tons of versatility for when I want to experiement a little. I was also possibly looking at getting a Rect-o-verb if I can find one used on the bay or someone selling here sometime.

if you're going to play it at work, how loud can it be?

maybe you want like a headphone amp or something?

I hate 1x12s for metal, but if I had to get a 1x12 combo for under a grand I'd go either with VHT or Mesa F series.

at work? man...where can I get your job?

My little practic rig for when the kids are asleep is a line 6 pod into some Boston Acoustic computer speakers...it sounds very good and works great. You might check that out because you can always use the pod with headphones and stuff or use it as a backup at a gig.

i've got a XXX 40watt 1X12 i'm wanting to get rid of, been planning on trading it at GC or Ebaying it.

after owning one, and even before, just kindda think for me atleast that i'd rather have a head and a 4x12 or just skip right down to a POD?

the 1x12 is still pretty damned heavy, and still needs to be turned up about as much as a 100watt head and 4x12 to sound good. even at lower volumes, i just miss the shit out of not having the 4x12.

when ever i play my little pocket POD with headphones i don't ever get the missing the big rig blues like i do with the 1x12.

really think you might wanna give the POD's or others a look, something that fits in your guitar case, now that's portability!

Ahh I forgot to mention where I work, that might help the recommendations.. I am an IT Specialist (aka I do nothing) and I work at a warehouse turned into a giant office space. I have the ENTIRE building to myself as I work at night, and I can do anything I want here (the regional manager said so ;) ), except for look at porn.  So I can crank the fuck out of w/e amp I have here. I don't need portability as I will just leave the combo here. I do know it has to be under 1k though, used or new doesn't matter, as I can't justify buying an expensive combo for something just at work, although I will be using it 5 nights a week. :D

I'm thinking I might actually pick up one of those Krank Rev Jr. half stacks. Would only be $640 at Music 123 since they have a little deal going on right now. Yeah, I think I'll do that...

I had a boogie rect-o-verb 1x12 combo that was pretty nice, got a little farty when REALLY cranked, but it was great. A mark III combo would be sweet as well

Dunno what $$$ are like over there, but I would second the Mark III if it's feasible. The Mark series are good for controling the flubbiness of the low B, with the pre-gain EQ 'n' all. :)

I'd get an Engl Screamer or Mesa Mark III.

+1 on the Screamer - they sound great!

I thought the combo version was rather light on the bottom end. With a 1x12 extension cab (or just a head + closed back 1x12) they're great for metal.

You won't regret it. They really sound great. I'm selling some stuff so I can get one for home.
