I've been searching for one for quite some time now and I keep seeing the same ones pop up on eBay for ridiculous prices. They have a BIN on it for $1500 and $1700 which is insane. I thought these should be going for about $800-$1000 max

If they are Rocktron versions thats your price range...not the official Eggy! They are becoming really in demand cause they are just really special. I plugged into our first one and #10 last week and was blown away!

What is the difference between the Pre-Rocktron and the Rocktron versions?

I'd like to take some responsibility for pushing the prices up on the true Egnater IE-4 with my youtube video.

Oh, and Jeff, I agree. It still blows me away everytime I plug in. It definitely doesn't sound the same as the M4's equivalent modules (which I also love). The IE-4 has something special in its singing, prominent midrange.

The Rocktron was made by Rocktron. It also has custom taper pots, so it sounds more normal with everything at noon.

The Egnater supposedly sounds better, but the knobs will be turned more left and right all over the place to achieve equalization.

Standard Rocktron price = $750-$900 ?

Standard Egnater price = >$1000 and growing

I must admit, your vids really got me interested, that lead tone is just so smooooth

Other than the pots, are there any voicing differences between the two? I am probably going to pick up a IE4 in a month or so when I get more cash together.

Other than pot taper and the physical board and layout itself being slightly different, they are technically the same preamp with the same voltages, resistance values, caps, etc. Bruce told me, in theory, with a blindfold, you could set them to sound the same.

However, I wouldn't settle for anything but the real Egnater.

.....And now I'm reminded again why I NEVER should have sold
my red face IE4..........

Jeff, into what power amp or power section did you plug the IE-4?

Guess I'll keep a lookout for one, Guitarslinger, you owned the CAE 3+ before right? How would you say the IE4 compares?

3+:

1. 3 channels instead of 4
2. no midi
3. larger (deeper) chassis
4. weighs a lot more
5. much brighter
6. doesn't do midgains as well
7. Does the Megadeth/Metallica thing better.

IE-4:

1. 4 channels
2. midi
3. does everything better. (except scooped metal)
4. smaller, lighter

There is no better guitar sound IMHO than Egnater IE4 channel 3.

Hi
I have an IE4 rocktron/Egnater, trying to sell it for around 800Euro ( I am in Germany now).
Included the original 4-way footswitch, retubed with EH 12AX7

I just sold a silver pre-Rocktron IE4 in excellent condition. It was wide watched and advertized on the most popular guitar forums and it went for about 950 shipped. I think the guys asking for 1500/1700 are being a bit optimistic.
