I want to set it up to record with my Herbert on my computer. Im looking for a user-friendly software that I can record, cut and paste parts of riffs to create songs, etc. Also I would like it if it had drum tracks that i could include in a recording.

I guess my budget would be around $500.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've been looking at something similar and talked with some other friends that have done a lot of PC recording. It seems a common way to record is to use an audio recorder/sequencer program along with a synth (drums, bass, keys) program.

My plan is to go with Reaper for recording and sequencing and use Reason for drums and bass.

Reaper is new from the guys who made WinAmp. I'm pretty impressed with how simple it is to use. But it also supports ASIO for low-latency recording and ReWire for interfacing to Reason for drums. Reaper is only $40 also!

Reason runs $400, but is fantastic for setting up drums and bass. If you only need drums, the software alone is enough. If you want to add basslines, a MIDI keyboard is required. For that I'm looking at an M-Audio Oxygen8 V2. That runs $120.

So if you only wanted the software it would be $440. With the keyboard it's $560. Seems to be in the ballpark.

Here are some links.
