I went to pick up my 1966 SG Custom at the repair shop last night.

North Coast Guitars in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Russ has always done great work for me, and this time was no different, but there was a surprise repair that he had to do to the Guitar that I was not aware of.

There were two small stress cracks in the cutaway/neck, heel area, but I thought they were solid, because the guitar stayed in tune perfectly. When Russ had the guitar on his bench, he put some stress on the heel area and was able to make the cracks move! So he took off the pickguard , and realized that the crack had extended into the tenon area !!! Russ was able to spread the crack open and work wood glue into the area and then clamp it. He said that he is getting no movement out of the area anymore and that it is solid as a rock! That is what I like about Russ. He is not afraid to take the bull by the horns and get things done.

The re-Fret is awesome!!! This guitar plays so much better now! The playability factor is +100 now.

I walked into the shop last night, and Zach, the other tech at the shop, had a 1967 SG Custom, on his bench at the same time that mine was there, also in for a re-Fret. The 67 was a walnut finish with a parchment pickguard and gold hardware! It was beautiful. Russ said that there was another SG Custom in the back, that was a 1968, that had also come in for a Refret, which was kind of ironic.

Nice! The fret ends look like the SS jumbo's I had put on my LP. All the way to the edge of the board and then not too much bevel!
