Back to beating the dead horse for a moment.....

So, in the loop, for clean volume boost function of solo volume only, what say you ? Dedicated clean boost ala Keeley Katana, Koko Boost, MXR Micro amp ? or MXR 10 Band EQ? pros and cons please....

I've got a V1 Keeley Katana, an MXR Micro Amp +, and a Koko Boost.... would a new version MXR M 108S10 band EQ be the final frontier, or a waste of time and money? decent deal on a new one locally has me interested....thanks in advance

I love my Zinky Master Blaster, they're fetching $250 on the used market now. The goddamn thing just rips!

It's a boost with a volume/tone. Keef has one, so it's blooze corksniffin' certified gold...or platinum, or diamond etc.

If you don't have one, it's worth getting. I want for nothing and won't sell it.

Clean boost for me (RC Boost set flat). But I used a Boss GE7 there a lot and liked it too. Similar to a boost up front it came to which one added just the right amount of juice to the tone in addition to volume. I never wanted the core tone to change much the way I used it.

If you don't feel you need to make EQ adjustments a clean boost is fine. But using something like an MXR 10 band or Boss GE7 let's you make EQ tweaks specifically for your lead tone when you hit that boost. The MXR even more so than the Boss.

Thought u were a straight in Wizard - no pedals guy?

For me I like EQ in loop for tone shaping and clean boost at end of chain for level/lead boost.

In the old days I’d have an OD1 and GE7 side by side on my board and step on them simultaneously- small hump on the EQ to stand out.

Been using the TC Spark for quite awhile now. Love it. The mini version. That pedal also detects momentary off/on whether u tap it or hold your foot down. Very useful.

I personally prefer a clean boost - generally a line driver, for that situation.

Especially in the loop after a delay.

EQ can work just as well, but i find i get the best results with everything flat anyways - especially when used in conjunction with other pedals in the loop.

Still basically plugging straight in; this is in the loop and only to get a volume boost for solo stuff. Not looking to color or shape tone, not hitting the front end of the amp with anything. The "clean" boosts I've tried so far that all have a little something extra added, the EQ might be able to be set dead flat...

I've seen frequency charts of the CAE line driver pedal that were very flat.

Clean boosts can add a bit too much hair/flub to the sound once pushed past a certain point. An EQ let's you drop the lows and highs a bit to avoid that.

I don't know how the MV reacts in a Wizard but having a clean boost/EQ in the loop can be really helpful for dialing low volume tones especially if your amp has a hair-trigger Master. And it's nice having another 'Master Volume' right at your feet when practicing/jamming.

EQ will certainly get the job done. As far as clean boosts, I've found the Xotic EP to be my favorite and have held on to mine. Another good one is the RC Booster, V2. Have owned one of those too. For just pure volume, the Morley Little Alligator, (have one of those too), is quite effective with its volume control. You can set the volume high when all the way back, then mash down for more. Depending on space, (if it's a non-issue), that's you best bet. It's pure volume, and not a tone altering alternative. Won't make it louder, just unity wide-open, just up the volume on the amp.

Check out the mini TC Spark I mentioned. It’s killer.

That's exactly why I use it after a delay in the loop, actually.

If I run an EQ in the same spot, I'm running it completely flat anyways.

Well I like my GE7 a little better than a "clean" boost because I can still tailor the lows to my liking.. some clean boosts fatten things in the preamp too much for me.. hard to explain..

Same, koko boost for example, red side is where I would go first because it is a mid boost. Will sometimes use clean side just barely to nudge an OD. clean boosts on their own tend to fatten too much for my liking too.

Yeah, I run a CAE line driver after an SD-1 sometimes just to get a few more dB of whatever the SD-1 is doing without additional coloring.

I think you both for different amps . It truly depends on the amp on which choice I make there

Steve, you could also do it the "other way", by using a rhythm cut pedal. I use a homebrew cut pedal with a 10k pot, and the LED comes on when the pot is bypassed for full volume. Or, you could use a 25k volume pedal in the loop for variable cut and volume swells, but those are difficult when trying to maintain a consistent rhythm level.
