Does anybody know a good place you can send a guitar and have some graphics painted on the body? Someplace that does guitar bodies exclusively would be preferred.

Marty Bell in Vista, CA. Reasonably priced and does great work. He did a custom EVH stripe job for me and it was identical to the pictures I sent. He has a website, just google it. Of course, you could also use Dan Armstrong who is the absolute king of guitar graphics, but he is way more expensive and busy. You can google his website as well.

Alternatively, you could just do it yourself. Go to paintyourownguitar.com and learn how. I'm in the middle of my first graphic paint job now and it is going pretty well. I have a thread here showing how I'm doing it step by step. It is an Explorer guitar I'm building. You can search threads on my name here to find it.

Lee has not accepted customers paint orders for a long time. He only does graphics if you order one of his guitars and Dan Armstrong is doing the graphic anyway, so you might as well work with him directly.

Mike Learn is probably the best, not the cheapest, however HE IS fast.

Simscustomshop.... Patrick Simms. You might want to research that company a little more carefully. I'm surprised you came across that site without seeing any of the bullshit that's tattooed on its forehead. Hes a bad business man with a boatload of well documented horror stories. His buddy "woods" who I'm trying not to plug is another just as blacient as a thief. F'n pole smoking thief.

Whilst doing a bit of research on a Jem project I ran across this site:

Looks like they do pro quality work.
I'll only say good luck ever getting your body back if you send one to get painted...

Steve

Wow - Didnt know that. Like I said - just ran across it while doing some research. Does that site/shop have a bad rep for turning around work?

I've seen your thread on the Explorer build. Very good looking work. I don't think I've got the time or patience.

I don't have the guitar yet. The graphic I had in mind is pretty simple. I was going to order a GMW and contacted Lee. It looks like it's going to be ~$2200-2400 for what I want which is pretty reasonable for custom build, custom graphic guitar. I thought about cheaping out and ordering a Carvin and getting the graphic painted on it, but then I thought I'd probably want to replace the pickups. Probably after you buy pickups and get the graphic painted on, it won't be much more expensive to just go with a GMW so that's probably what I'll end up doing. Thanks for all of the good replies.

I probably would have in about a month - thats when I'll get serious about the project. I honestly dont need anymore info than what I have read in this thread to write them off as a possibility. Bad reps like that are usually well earned. I dont need any shit to deal with. Thanks to you and Steve for the heads up.

I have used Marty Bell as well as a couple other forum members. Great guy, reasonable prices, and amazing finishes for sure!!! :)

GMWs are great guitars--you can't go wrong. Lee handles the painting of solid colors, and Dan Lawrence does his graphics. You can contact DL directly if you have a body. Dan does crazy camo and old school type finishes (think vintage Charvel)

Mike Learn has an incredibile turn around time and is reasonably priced, and does great work (he does a lot of work for the Charvel CS, as does Dan Lawrence). Mike's thing is skulls and flames, a lot of airbrush type of stuff. More intricate.

I've heard mixed stuff about Marty Bell and Sims paint finishes.
