Man I just love American Idiot! HIs P90 tone just kills..great way to wake up this amp! This was one of the songs my son's hockey team got fired up to, that and Dogman by Kings X!

I'm not sure how much of that tone is p-90. I think the BJ sig guitar is a stacked 90, so more like a humbucker tone. The back up guitarist on tour played a 335.

Great tones regardless. Great pop writing too.

I've heard Billie Joe talks about also using a LP Standard (or custom) on the album - Not just the P90.

Rob Cavallo also stated that each guitar track was just a single mic. Mainly vintage SM57s. Great, great tone on that album. P90s just GRIND man.

That's gonna be my next build. P90 mahogany tele.

Billie's tone is hard NOT to like.

Does anyone happen to know what he was using on "F.O.D." on Dookie? That is the thickest, sickest tone. Did he boost his amp or was he running some kind of distortion through it? I'm dying to know. I've been obsessed with that tone for months now.

Wasn't the album just a strat copy w/ a JB and a CAE modded Marshall?

Yeah, but it sounds like there's something EXTRA on that track. It's just a fatter, thicker tone than the other songs on the album. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? :scared:

:inlove: Green Day!

Great Marshall tone, great songs.
I haven't seen them live since the Dookie tour. I already have my tickets for the July 18th show

I love the sound on Dookie, and Insomniac is one of my favorite "rock" albums. Been a fan since I was a 'wee lad. I bought Warning the day it came out and never put it down!

I dig the sound on F.O.D as well. Thick, but punchy and clear. Very cool.

Another song like that for me would be "Kitchenware and Candy Bars" by STP (Purple). When Dean does the up-stroke on the electric, DAMN! I'd KILL to have that tone at home.

Always liked his rhythm tone  Sounds like a Marshall on a Greenback loaded cab.

I'm pretty sure he uses V30 now, but I'm not sure what he used on Dookie.
