It's worth watching, but really sad. Feel terrible for all the victims and their families. Terrible thing for Great White too... the 80's hair metal business is tough enough without something like that happening. Didn't know about the bouncer who would not let people out the band entrace/exit during the fire... incredible.

Yes.

Scary shit. Everyone should watch it. Lots of lessons learned, including ALWAYS knowing where your exits are.

I watched it a few weeks ago. Definitely a sad, sad event. Alot of stupidity and negligence in that one.

I think it was on Reelz

Spectrum/Charter

Sadly, there was only really 1 exit, which was the entrance. There was an Exit in the back, but it was designated for 'Band Only' and people were denied exit that way. It happened so fast, that by the time you realized there was a problem, it was too late.

Spoiler: As Napalmdeath indicated, there was plenty of blame to go around. It was not any one entity but the sum of all the fucked up parts. It is overwhelming. For one, the pyrotechnics for this small venue were too much. We also learned that there was cheating on all of the fire inspections of this joint over the years. In the end, it was the sound proofing that was very old and not fire retardant that caused this fire to catch and spread so quickly. It would have been like pouring gasoline over the entire back line and ceiling and then waiting for someone to throw a Molotov cocktail.

That's what I remembered of it anyway :dunno:

If I recall, the owners were charged and convicted. Charged with 200 counts of manslaughter, (misdemeanor), convicted on 100, both in prison.

Yeah, it was on Reelz.

man, i remember watching that as breaking news on cnn back in the day. Such a sad story. there are some venues that i frequented at the time that were pretty similar to The Station. That would be so horrifying to be stuck in a place with one exit like that. The I-rock in detroit is exactly like that place. Same size, maybe smaller. low celing, small load out door by the stage (which if the stage was on fire...good luck getting to it), and then one other single person door that is in front of this small zig zaggy wall. I may have had a nightmare or two about that shit...

Yep, both owners, and Great White's tour manager were all indicted. They were all charged with 100 counts of manslaughter for each death. The owners had installed polyurethane foam to the walls, which was highly flammable, and there were no fire extinguisher to be found... anywhere. Great White's tour manager is the one who coordinated and set off the pyro. It took only a couple of minutes for the whole place to go up in flames. People rushed the front exit, but someone fell and everyone started crawling over the top of each other, until the door was totally clogged... so terrible.

True, and the fact they didn't have fire extinguishers for using pyro is just insane. Truly sad event.

I saw it a few weeks ago also. Very sad and hard to watch knowing I could of been in the same situation countless times.

Strangely, I was just reading about that fire last night. Had no idea there was a documentary about it.

One thing I that thought was odd was the fact that Home Depot paid out $5 million because of that fire. I wonder how they had any culpability in it?

They sued everybody they possibly could. That’s what they do in these type of cases

I googled it right after I posted (I don’t know why it didn’t cross my mind to do that before), and apparently the previous owner of the building had purchased some of the foam from Home Depot.

I saw they sued JBL also. Not sure how that works

I remember watching the video of those people stacked there and it was a helpless feeling. Really bothered me when it happened, seeing those folks stuck.
