Guitar pot question

Can I take out all of the electronics out of my guitar and just use the tone pot as a single volume pot with it? Basically, I just want it as simple and direct as possible and I don't use the neck pickup in this guitar. Reason I say tone pot is because it's already hooked up to the jack and the bridge pot is dead it seems??

This Is how I began with guitar. Then I eventually ordered a guitar like this, but in the meantime... Let me give you this. And also, you can leave the old stuff in there disconnected, or you can just put a bolt and nut in the empty tone pot hole to be metal as fuck.

Thanks for the schematic, this will be easy. No issues using a tone pot as a volume pot though? They're all the same right?

most of the time, yes. I have heard that some tone pots are different. the ones I had always were a volume pot that the capacitor wired in changed to a tone pot.

A pot is a pot, as long as it's the same value. It's how you use it that matters.

That said. I prefer audio taper pots for volume for a better roll off, but linear taper pots for tone to work more effectively. Most manufacturers aren't going to do that though. More than likely, they are the same.

The only difference between most volume and tone pots is how they’re wired.

As long as the pot isn’t a no-load pot, it will work. Most no-load pots have a small divot at the top of the sweep you can feel, btw. If the whole sweep feels smooth you’re probably fine.

Rule of thumb is 250k pots for single coils, 500k for humbuckers.
