Who would you guys recommend for guitar repairs, and things like set-ups in New York City? And what kind of prices do they charge? I don't drive, so it must be somewhere I can get to without it, like in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens

I'd hit up the guys at 30th Street Guitar. I've bought several guitars from them and have chatted about general repairs. They've been around for quite a while. If you go or call ask for Matt, he's the cat who owns the place.

What about Rudy's or Umanov guitars? How are they for repairs?

I'm not from NY, but I've purchased a couple guitars from Rocky at StreetSounds NYC. he's in Brooklyn, and talking to him on the phone seems like solid guy. All his setups to me have been good ones. Not sure of pricing, sorry. His setups come with purchase.

Cool little factoid...Apparently His shop is a few miles from the original Gretsch factory, and he has one of the largest Gretsch inventories around....if that sort of thing interests you.

Cool recommendations. Keep them coming. Imai looks promising. StreetSounds looks a bit far away and inconvenient for me to get to

Mike jr at Maggio music in Brooklyn

Right under the train
86th and 18 th Ave

Does good stuff.

2 votes for 30th Street. So far I think it's between 30th and Imai

Mikes a great dude, Very honest and not expensive at all. I grew up in that neighborhood and have been going to that store for 20 years. The guy is always in a good mood and knows his shit.

He's wired up pickups in like 10 of my guitars and fixed a broken volume pot on my tremoverb when I had it. quick turn around times and quality work.

Last time I used Peekamoose, I waited over a year for my guitar to be ready and the repair was $1200! To be fair, they did a lot of work to my old Gretsch guitar and did a great job, but I'll never go back because of the stupid long wait time and prices

Damn that sucks. My buddy Tom uses them and has never had to wait very long. He's only used them for basic stuff like setups and fretwork though...

Do you what they charge for that? That's more or less what I'm looking for now
