Amp ho
TheGreatGreen got me thinking - am I doing a total disservice to my rig's sound when I send iphone clips to my buddies? I've never felt like it was that bad - and honestly feel like it captures the vibe well enough that it's worth recording and hearing. But so many people are adamant that cell phone mics are not even worth using. I realize there's more to the argument about cell phone recording, but all I'm focusing on here is the room sound - which is a totally different thing from close micing a cab.

So here we have the Apogee HypeMic which is a USB mic that you can plug directly into your cell phone, ipad, or computer. I've never used it for electric guitar room recording til now. I spent about 7 minutes making this, but I did not mess with the rig at all in between recordings. The mics were placed in the exact same place. I do realize that a traiditonal mic + preamp setup would be ideal here to compare to the iphone mic - but this is still a $350 mic that is a wonderful little tool and is highly regarded for casual recording.

It's the Synergy SLO into my 2150 into V30's. I have my wet cabs turned way down which are Alnico Ruby 1x12's with a little delay from an intelliverb. You can just barely hear them.

After doing this and listening back, I stand behind my original sentiment: the iPhone doesn't sound great, or even that good, but it sounds fine and does capture the vibe of the setup.

IMO - it's worth recording and hearing. I can get an idea of what an amp sounds like from iphone room recordings. But that's just me.

Whether you think room recordings, regardless of mics used, are worth making is another topic entirely.

Sounds really good.!! I usually prefers in-the-room sounds. Feels it gives me a better representation of what the amp sounds like. And the hypemic takes it to another level

If we're talking demo then why spend all the money?!?!! I agree that all you need is the phone to capture the vibe and your clips would kick ass if it was on a transistor am radio lol

Definitely sounds better, but $350 would be too much for that purpose. If you were getting it for something else, then yea might as well use it for recording cell phone clips too.
