Shure GLXD16 (or I guess now the +) the recommended unit to go with still? Anything else I should consider? Prefer the transmitter pack vs the plug in style

Thanks in advance

I've always wanted a great wireless setup but have never pulled the trigger. Consider me interested in this thread, but I think the smaller plug-in style would fit my needs(or lack there-of) better. Boss has really been hitting these in recent years.

I bought a used Shure GLXD16 wireless with the tuner/receiver pedal from a seller on TGP about a month ago. I have already played a few shows with it in the past few weeks with my cover band. It works great for me, no issues yet, and the battery life on the transmitter lasts for about 11 hours. I have the tuner/receiver pedal mounted on my pedalboard for AC power and the tuner works great too.

I use an old line 6 g50. I've only had it cut out when I went really far away. The battery door is a common complaint but it works great if I use regular non rechargeable batteries. Otherwise it's been pretty solid for years now, especially for the $100 I paid for it used.

I run a pair of the new GLXD16+ units. I use one with my Kemper setup and the other mounted on my board with my amp. They are amazing!!
Long battery life in the transmitter and a really nicely updated product.

I've used them now on about 20 gigs since I got them in March and they have been flawless in many different venues we have played.

I have an older X2 Digital Wireless that I've owned for almost 18 years I wanna say. never failed me. no issue at live shows. used it on fair size stages and no cut outs. Never play stadiums, so I cant comment on that distanc.e LOL

You can find them cheap now days on reverb.

good luck.

I love my GLXD16. I've had it since 2015 and it's been a reliable rock. It sounds great... I prefer its sound to cables, and I don't know what sorcery they're playing at but my fuzzes sound fine with it. Battery life has been great.

I believe the main improvement of the GLXD16+ is the one I complained about to my buddy who worked at Shure back when I bought it: there was no 1/4" input jack on the receiver to use for backup in case you run out of batteries and need to quickly switch to a cable while still retaining the tuner functionality. Without that extra jack, if you run out of battery, then you need to completely disconnect the receiver out of your board chain which takes more time, adds the clicks and pops of reconnecting everything, and just makes it a rougher experience. Plus you're either out your tuner or need to keep an extra one on you. The new one fixes that issue.

I just gave away an older X2 digital wireless to my band mate after using it at the last show. It used up so much power on the 9 volt battery that I had to use the back up battery to keep going through the night. I decided to switch over to the Shure GLDX 16 wireless after that. I've been wanting to use a wireless and was worth the expense, even if it was used.

Thanks for the input y’all, looks like the GLDX16 is the way to go since everyone is singing it’s praises

I promise you wont be disappointed. The only thing better are the illegal models. But they are pretty pricey, and the military may confiscate them, lol

Interesting.. never had the battery issue but now that you mention it, I'll keep an eye on it.

I had the X2 XDS Plus wireless system receiver that I mounted on my pedalboard. I fed it 9 volt DC power from my Fryette (former VHT) Valvulator I tube buffer/power supply. The transmitter, being old & used, had to have the battery cover taped down so the 9 volt battery won't fall out. I had it mounted on a neoprene wireless transmitter pouch and strapped to my guitar strap. Not only did the battery get used up quick, but I also had issues of the transmitter cutting out here & there during the show. At that point, I decided just to give it away and upgrade to the used Shure GLXD16 that I recently purchased.

I owned both the X2 wireless XD95 and XDS Plus when the company was still based in Sacramento, CA and before X2 was bought out by Line 6. The X2 rackmounted wireless systems are much better. I'm happy to hear that you don't have issues with your X2 wireless and that you're still using it. I would have kept mine, but didn't like the issues that I was having with my X2 XDS Plus wireless system.

If you are playing in a place with 100+ people and everyone on their cell phone....you will quickly find out which wireless system works and which does not. I've had a couple systems pre and post Covid that did not work at all in those situations.

Yeah. I have heard of all systems potentially having problems, besides the old ones that were on a complete different frequency. That is why pink floyd and all those other bands had way better wireless than we do today. Government is so goofy with 'owning' frequencies

GLDX 16 user here. Awesome unit. Been using it for about a year now with zero issues or complaints.
