yes I said HALP!

o.k., as you all know I have a sickness.....REAL BAD! for gear. So here is my current self induced problem.

1. I have quit my band, decided to concentrate on playing and recording.
2. I have PLENTY of "playing live" gear, and next to nothing for recording.
3. I have 3 Randall Rigs, none of which suit my purposes but I like them all the same but the one Randall I want I dont have.

Here is the question I have for you......

Should I consolidate and sell almost all the amps and 1 guitar (Buddha), and purchase the Ax-FX (which I'm planning on anyways), a power amp and get a nice set of monitors, and a good dedicated computer to record with, and just get busy with it, or bide my time and try to work it out other ways......which on my income could take FOREVER!

yes, I'm looking for justification for my G.A.S. for my studio......

nah....been down that road, 3 times  And while I LOVE the Mark IV, I'm just not in that Mesa mode now.

I think I'm really into this studio idea, plus I'll still have my cabs, and can use the AxeFX and Power amp to go jam with people if the desire so hits...

hmm.....

thats part of the plan......

EZ Drummr with the DFH add-on

Since you quit your band, Sell some of the gear and get yourself a recording rig. It will definitely make you a better player and you can always buy back the stuff later on. One thing that I have learned from years of hoarding gear is that there is no need to have multiples of one particular amp/guitar etc etc.

+1 I'll back that completely, ever since I got my PODxt all I do is record and improve my techniques.. Big rigs were fun, but I think it's even better to rock out to your own recordings

yeah, right!
what planet you from?
ya gotta buy buy buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool, thanks Ralphie, I wouldn't be selling my cabs, or my bass amp, so with the AxeFX and a power amp, I will still have a VERY usable rig to go play given the chance....

seriously, sell off some of the gear, set yourself up to record, and start laying down some music

Sounds like a good plan!!

I liked the clips that I heard of the axetrak when used thorugh a speaker. Still not digging the direct distorted sounds at all but through a guitar speakers it rock IMHO

Sell off a minumum of gear that you can to get some of the recording gear you want. Save for the rest of it, or figure ways to make money to buy the rest of it. With your past record I'd say you'll be selling off your recording gear within 6 months at most and going a different direction so I wouldn't sell off the Main gear that you have now. For instance keep the Lynch box and one of the Randalls and cabs, sell the rest, and start saving for your recording gear.

I'm a whore so it sounds stupid or hypocritical for me to say it, but I think you should probably focus a little less on the GAS and concentrate on having fun playing...

Here is my advice:

Don't sell anything before you know what you want to buy.
Don't buy a guitar rig if you think that you may sell it within next 5-10 years.
Calm your GAS down & acknowledge that every time you buy & sell gear you loose money & time.
Spend less time on discussion boards (I need to learn this one too :scared: ).
Think what your ultimate goal is & start from there.
Make a spreadsheet with all the equipment you need to achieve you goal.
Now when you know how much money you need multiply it by 2 or better 3.
The number you have now is the least you are going to spend, though you might be sure that it's insane.
From here you can start selling & buying the stuff you REALLY need & not what you hear some guy is excited about.

And last, but not the least
I think you should probably focus a little less on the GAS and concentrate on having fun playing...

Hope it helps.
