Every gauge of string has a "sweet spot" for every player in that the way you pick, and how hard you pick and the pick that you are using will affect your ability to either pick accurately or speed pick.
When I find a gauge of string that I like, I usually go to the place somewhere between both pickups and locate the sweet spot that allows me to do the best job of picking where the string gauge feels the most comfortable and the string stiffness is comfortable for the gauge of pick and the amount of pressure I am using on that guitar.
That is the only way I have found to locate the best picking spot on the guitar.
