Nice way to ring in the new year for me, picked up a new Rebel 30 today! Always kinda been an Egghead anyway, but now its official with my first Egnater amp.
Couldn't resist the 15% off thing at GC, suddenly $630 seemed like a deal (took off $120 and some cred for a mic), made the decision easy. This is the only amp I've REALLY been gassy over lately. After WEEKS of homework and testing most amps in the same range ($), it was a slam dunk on the Egnater line, just became a minor battle over which model (Renegade, Rebel 20/30). I definitelty wanted a head as well, never been a big combo fan and I happen to have a great vintage Fender 2x12 cab that needed the company. The BIG factor for going with the 30 head though in the end was the cleans, they just spoke to me, they're STELLAR IMO and actually, crush the newer Fender stuff I tried anyway.
It's squeaky clean/new, GC never even plugged it up as they already have an Egnater display pile-o-amps on the floor. I went over it closely when I got home, build quality is great! Didn't bother swapping tubes yet as the cleans 'as is' are the main reason I need it. I suppose trying a Tungsol in V1 might be worth the time. I checked the bias, the EL84 side was a little hot at 45mv (?) and the 6V6 side was dead on at 40mv. I dropped the EL84 down to 40. LOVING the tones!!! Life is good. (=
I run my Quick Rod through the Egnater cab and now the Rebel 30 through the Fender cab, both with backs open.
Peace
