What tube sounds better,6L6 or EL 34? i know it's personal preference, but which sounds fattest for hard rock?
Also,Which brand is best? Ruby,JJ,Mullard,or?

Well, obviously its a matter of taste, but mine came new with 6L6s and I thought the mids
were kind of indistinct so the dealer gave me a set EL34s (Rubys) and I was happier.
It definitely sounded more mid-rangy and a little more "Marshally", which I equate with hard rock.
It had a little less bass, but the VH4S has so much more bass on tap that it was easy to compensate.

I've used both types pretty extensively... After a while with the 6L6s, I decided it just didn't have enough bite to me and I went back to EL34s... I have the SED Winged C ones in my VH4 now and they sound awesome.

that's why you should try KT77

it's got the best of both worlds

I believe the KT 77's have more bite. They are from the EL 34 family tone wise. I would get some JJ KT 77's and never look back.....but that is me.

ive never tried them, guess its time to order them.thanks

i was reading about KT 77s,not as compressed as EL 34s which is great cause i hate a compressed sound, and that amp has more low end then i'll ever use.
