Has anyone compared the different Sd Blackout versions?

I recently installed the Jeff Loomis set in my 7 string and they seem fine but I've noticed lately that when recording I seem to always have some spiky frequencies in the 1.5k to 3k region. I was looking at the Seymour Duncan site this morning and apparently the Jeff Loomis set is boosted in the mids quite a bit compared to the other versions. I wonder if this could be causing my issues. There's 2 more versions of blackouts, the original which seems to have a mid cut and the Mick Thomson set which seems to have the mids and bass cut. I think I'm going to buy just the bridge pickup to try out from one of the other 2 versions but just wondering if anyone has tried any of them or has had the same issue. Not really looking for any other pickup brands at this time.

I have the MT in a guitar and love it. The original blackout to me was too bassy.

Cool man thanks. Thats the one I'm leaning towards. I have the AHB's in a 6 string and there just about perfect but it doesn't have way too much low end like my 7 string.

I like the original, compared to the MT. So there you go two completely opposite opinions.

Not to steal the topic, but I wonder if anyone has tried the neck versions of the AHB-1's or 3's in the bridge. Is it an 85 vs 81 kinda deal where the neck pickup also sounds cool in the bridge?

I have only had the AHB-1B, which I thought was a bit too bassy. I wonder if I'd like the EMTY's better.

Well I found a Mick Thompson bridge last night and popped it in and wow talk about neutered!! Zero balls, not even little ball but zero!!!! Its going back to the store for sure. They also had and original so I guess I'm gonna try it next.

You know what I just might try that. I wonder what the difference is. I did the Emg switch way back when and never really heard any difference but I also really didn't know what I was doing back then either.

I have the originals in a Mexi start and really love them. Not too bassy for me, maybe its the guitar, I dont know. But I am a big fan of the originals.

It really depends on the wood of the guitar. Yes you can try the Alnico neck version in the bridge much like an 85 swap and it does work too. Not a fan of the originals but a lot of people do like them.

I'm a big fan of the originals. Had them in my 8 string (when I still had it), and currently in 2 of my six strings. Recently got the Loomis set in my Ibanez RGD2120Z to try something different. They do have a bit more mid presence and a tighter low end. The neck is interesting. Kinda has the single coil quack to it. I tried the EMTY's and couldn't get along with the bridge. It was a bit too tight for my liking. I feel if you're a big fan of the EMG 81 the EMTY would be a better fit than the original. The EMTY neck was very nice though. Super fluid.

My personal fav is the Retribution Blackouts (Dino Cazares model). They are perfect for me and I have them in a couple of my 7's. The output is tamed a bit, tighter low end than the originals so their a lot more balanced string to string. Not sure why they got discontinued but Dino tweet'd me that he had something new in the works.

The MT’s were treble city for me. To be fair I had the 7 string version in an already bright sounding Jackson and then Skervesen. I think they would be good in a mahogany type darker guitar perhaps.

I had the Blackouts AHB-1, 2 and 3. I've never tried the Jeff Loomis to compare, but from what you are describing i thought the EMTY would be the better fit. At this point, the original is the best option.

Would love to try the Dino’s,
