Has the VH4 ever been revoiced?

Any one know if the VH4 has been substantially revoiced?

I had an '01 VH4s, and played an '07 yesterday, and it was VERY different.

The '07 had much more gain on channel 2, and felt less compressed on channel 4.

Just wondering if that was standard, or perhaps the original owner had it modded.

Thanks!

Josh

Blue faced and early grey frontplate models are voiced darker (and if I remember correctly have an addtional ECC). Since the late 90s they are pretty close to each other though.

I had a '97/'98 halfstack which was killer

Mine is 07 & I really dig the channel 4. I'm surprised that it doesn't seam to appeal to others.

Thanks buddy, this one was clearly modded if that's the case. Sounded ridiculously good!

Yes, there have been made changes to the VH4. I also have a 2001 VH4 that Peter updated to the latest circuit this spring.

I noticed the same effects you already did, as well as more gain on Ch.3 and a lot less stiff tone.

Thank you. Channel 2 was a huge difference in gain. Went from maybe AC/DC with maxed gain on channel 2 (on my old one), to more of an 80's metal type modded jcm sound with gain at 3 o'clock on the new one. Very cool. I liked it MUCH better than the older version I had.

Did Peter mention when the latest revisions took place?

The VH4 definitely sounded freaken awesome yesterday, I clearly underestimated it, I now have a new perception of that amp, but maybe it's cuz we were moving so much air at deafening volumes

Same with me. I already loved my 2001 VH4 but the "new" one is so much better

As far as I remember Peter said there have been made several changes over the years and there isn't a clear cut between old or new.

I love mine... version is from 2002... VH4S... I liked it better than a new one a friend got, but I think the main difference were the tubes. I have a bunch of vintage stuff in mine. I bet if the tubes were the same, they would sound the same.

They won't. Peter has changed the circuit over the years ;)

I'm with Jaymz. Not the same at all. Huge difference from my 01 to his 07.
