I got mine a few days ago. Was going through all the sonic changes available,
including the 100watt/30watt switch.
Manual says;
Put amp on standby and half the value of the cab before switching to 30 watt mode.
(16 ohm into 8 ohm,,,and so on)

Watching the Bogner online manual with Prof Bogner and as he's switching to 30 watt mode,
he DOES NOT switch the 16 ohm cab to 8 ohm input.

Which is right :confused:

Thought he was using a Helios 4x12, thats rated at 16ohm.
Especially since he was plugged into the 16 ohm input on the amp.

"shrugs shoulders"

I am kind of wondering about this myself. I am currently running through a Diezel 4-ohm cab, so I have not experimented with the 30 watt setting.

On my bogner ecstasy- it says to half the impedance when switching to half power. On the ecstasy and some other amps I have had, it means if your going into a 16 ohm cabinet, you would switch the ohm selector, on the back of the amp to 8 ohms- in half power mode. You can call Bogner or e-mail them- very good at getting back.

Yes technically you should change to the 8 ohm tap on the amp in 30w mode. The Helios cabs are 16 ohm. As long as you're not pushing the amp real hard for very long in 30w mode, it shouldn't hurt the amp running 16 ohm cab, but still it's best to follow the recommended usage.

Thanks Andy.
I knew it was ok to plug a 16 ohm cab into a 8 ohm tap,but when you see the Prof doing one thing and
the manual say another just wanted to be sure.

I could be wrong, but I thought if the tranny is robust enough it really doesn't hurt it...ie Soldano SLO. But, yeah you typically should halve it, especially at volume.

Interesting, I've always just thrown it into 30watt mode while on standby and continued on playing. Never messed with the cab plug
