Hello guys

I'm new to this forum, I believe I signed up whne it first started but I've since changed emails and blah blah blah, so I'm back.

I'm not new to Diezel however, I had my first in 2005 I had a Diezel Herbert and matching 4x12, first of it's kind in Southern Ontario that I know of. anyhow long story short I sold it, :aww:

But ever since I packed it up and shipped it off to Montreal to it's new owner there has been a gap in my life, I really do feel I was meant to play The Diezel.

Anyhow, there were certain things about the Herbert that I wish had of been different in terms of tone, so I'm coming back with a VH4, ever since I first saw these and heard the bands I like using them I figured I should get one.

Well between that time and now I've had about 6 amps, and before coming tot he herbert I had about 15 before that, I sold it because it was too much money for me to have tied up at the time.

Anyhow, now I have a Bogner Uberschall which I do love quite a bit so I'll keep that I've had that for about 2 years now, but the VH4 is calling me, and a matching Diezel cab.

If one is just getting the VH4, are there things I need to know in advance? I've never played one, I'm looking for a range of tones that I believe will be available, so please chime in with your VH4 stories and pics!

You're going to find the VH4 has a harder, crisper, tighter attack to it with perhaps not as much saturation. But it should still be enough. I believe its also thicker sounding in the low mids.

As for cabs, for metal the new Diezel front loaded w/G12K100 speakers are the way to go !

The things I didn't like about Herbert are probably things that I can change now, now that I have more knowledge, at the time the things I didn't like were hightened by the fact I needed money, so those issues allowed me to sell it, however my mind still to this day misses it.

anyhow the things I remember at the time were that it had this inhernat fat bottom end that was not present on my powerball, I wanted a tight crisp aggressive more marshall like tone. I had just put Winged C power tubes in it at the time and had it re biased and ended up not liking the tone, but had I changed out the preamp tubes I probably would have ended up loving it. And it had all 6L6's. I was stubborn and wanted my 4000$ amp to sound exactly like I wanted out of the box, but I know better now. However my Bogner did LOL notwithstanding......It's still burning a hole in my mind

anyhow, I'm going to give the VH4 a spin, and then get a herbert again later on.

Bogners have a lot more midrange, you are not going to have Uberschall midrange with neither VH4 nor Herbert.
VH4's low end is tight, Herbert lows are bigger & more loose. VH4 low end is as tight as it gets I believe. Overall if I had to choice between the 2 I'd take Herbert without giving it a second thought, IMO it's a better amp than VH4. Herbert sounds like younger sibling of VH4, VH4 is like more sitting on the porch & smoking a cigar sound, Herbert is more like sniffing cocaine & getting ugly :D .

Since you asked for it ;)

Have you tried Bogner XTC? It's pretty damn tight too, tighter than the Uberschall for sure. I's more like Bogner VH4 if it makes sense  .

Hey man

Thanks for the info, and I've hear some really good clips of the VH4, and since clips suck, it's a good indication I will like it.

I used to own an ecstacy 100b and wasnt that fond of it, had it for a while as well.

But I'm sure if I get the VH4 and don't like it, someone else will!

ahahaha anyhow, I'm not too worried about it, since I've already had Herbert I'll give something else a try.

and TIGHT is what I'm looking for, to go along with the Uber.

I think you need to stick with what you buy for a little longer :)

Maybe that's your guitar or your cabinet that need to be upgraded. I used to not like a lot of stuff before too because the quality of my guitars & cabs wasn't there, now I have my 2 Bogners & Diezels & unless my finances crash me I'm planning to stick with them for a long time, one might say "forever". I can tell you that my Bogner OS 212 added more tightness than couple dozens of other cabinets I've tried.

From what Bogner support says 101B is lot more compressed & tighter than 100b. I've never played 100b myself, so I don't know, what I do know is that 101B is one tight m*********r.

Well my guitars and cabinets are just fine thanks! :D

I stick with gear as long as I can hahaha but things are made to be tried! I believe the fact that other products exist is enough to tell me that they can be had if I want them?

Anyhow, thanks for your advice!

Of course, couldn't argue with that.

Good luck!

So then you guys don't like the VH4?

on the contrary!
No amp collection is complete without BOTH a Herbert AND a VH4. It's like having a Marshall without a Fender, or having a strat without a LP.

IMHO, they both possess that Diezel "KERRANG", and that beautiful BRUTALITY and GRUNT that only a Diezel can deliver. But the "openess" and girth of the Herbert (180W) is not necessarily a quality that's found in the VH4 (100W). Electronic circuits aside, you cannot fight physics!!!

Very well put. For me, at volume, it's the thump of the Herbert. Just kinda kicks you in the chest
