Hey Guys need your help. I have been using EH 12AX7 tubes in the BMAN for both V1 and V2 since I got it. THe other day during band practice I noticed a rattle when I played and determined it was a preamp tube in the BMAN the V2 to be specific. I had this once earlier this year. Soooo I swaped out the v2 and tha dah fixed. Here is the issue. Came back to jam with the band a few days later and powered up the head and the BMAN was damn near silent but the other module was at full volume as normal. So I swapped out the BMAN for the VOX just to see and the VOX was fine hmmm?!?!? SO I swapped out the V2 of the BMAN for another tube and what do you know I got sounds at normal level. PLayed for a few hours with the band went home and a few days later... guess... yep dead V2 in the BMAN. I ordered 3 new EH 12Ax7 tubes from a reputed deal (I use alot and never ever have issues so not his fault) and go through all 3 tubes over the course of the next 3 jams. We only play for like 2-3 hours each session too.

Question is what the hell? is this a BMAN issue? Do I sent it to Jeff and Bruce? I used a chinese in V2 last night and I am curious to see if the problem shows itself again. Any of you dudes have this issue???

Sounds like a problem with the module.

Stop frying your tubes.

Id say youve done enough trying tubes. Probably best to get in contact with Egnater. Im sure they'll work it out for you.

This has gotta be some crazy fluke thing. Never heard of this before on these forums.

I'm sure Jeff or Bruce will be happy to help you out.

It could be one bad resistor wired to V2.

I'll bet Bruce could diagnose and fix it in five minutes.

Three bad tubes from the same batch could happen though. That would be pretty weird. I would take one more pre-amp tube from a module that has been working for a long time with no issues and pop it in the Bassman. If that one fries contact Egnater for sure.

I would spray deoxit in the volume and gain pots and work them and let dry and go with a known good tube and if that don't do it them contact Egnater.

I use EH12AX7's in my BMAN and have never had any issues.

If you've owned the module for a while and never had issues, it could be a bad batch of tubes but sounds like a question for Egnater.

Nothing possibly in the module at V2 that could cause this issue. We quit using EH due to this same issue. Try a different manufacturer.

Thanks Jeff that is what I thought. FYI dudes Chinese tube still fired up today thus broke this cycle of tube burn out. I think Hilly is right!

Man, what is with the state of tubes these days. First I hear our guys at Egnater saying there are not many Reliable EL34 being made and now EH 12AX7's have gone south too. This is really disappointing to know.

???

I'm not a fan of EH at all. Every chinese tube I've played has been pretty darn durable.

Yeah, I agree w/ Nick here. I used to like EH's, until I got some Chinese 12ax7a's. In my M4, all but one of my modules (DLX) have 2-12ax7a's in them. Daddy luvs his 12ax7a's in the SL, SL2, EG3/4/5.

Never tried them in my DLX. Will do that tonight. Maybe I can just say screw it and go 100% Chinese 12ax7a's :).

The Tung-sols have been good though for me in the COD / DLX.

Eric
